Has anyone ever seen or used a Malone Micro Sport XT? Primarily I could really use a kayak trailer but would also like for it to double as a camping gear and bike hauler. It seems like this trailer could be versatile with it's 800 lb capacity. I'm thinking if I add the extension to my mega warrior basket to mount on the cross bars, and build a platform below the cross bars for smaller shorter items, it should carry just about anything I would need. I've searched the web for threads and images but other than being used as a dedicated kayak trailer there's not much info. I would think it would be capable to load an RTT on as well if I ever had one. Maybe there would be plans for a wheel and tire swap with larger fenders to add ground clearance and off-road capability (nothing extreme). That could require an axle swap as well, not sure and I may never go that far anyway. The XT has a retractable tongue to allow the trailer to be stored upright in a garage which has me thinking I could retract the tongue, drill a second hole, and pull it as a shorter trailer when just using for camping or hauling bikes. Does anyone here see any potential issues towing the trailer with the tongue retracted? There's definitely no info that I have found for that modification. It's not the cheapest trailer but not too bad either for a trailer that I think would suit my needs. I'm not interested in modding a utility trailer for my purposes, I'm really looking for a fairly simple kayak trailer with decent capacity, that stores easily, and is ready to go. There is an "offroad" version that appears to just come with wheels/tires from a pontoon boat and is powder coated black. It doesn't have the retractable tongue but I think the kit would fit it which is $199.
Any thoughts from the forum?
The rear leaf spring area looks a bit odd without a shackle there.
