The Prescott National Forest and Expeditions West are sponsoring a trail rehabilitation project on Martin Canyon/Smiley Rock trail. Due to significant off trail damage done to a stock tank and hill side, Smiley Rock trail is in danger of closure. We need a good turnout to provide the physical labor to build water bars and rehab the hill climb. The USFS will provide some the materials and tools necessary, and we will working under the direction of PNF Trails/Motorized Recreation Ranger Ron Rodgers. Time permitting we will also block off illegal trail access points and give the trail a good cleaning as well.

If you can bring a pick, shovel, hoe, rock bar/digging bar or rake, please do so!

We need 30 or 40 people to bring work gloves and be prepared for a good day of hard work!

A huge thanks to Mark (crawler#976) for working with the Prescott National Forest in coordinating this trail rehab effort. We would love to see as many ExPo members from northern/central AZ as possible at weekend! Please post up here if you plan on helping out.

I'll be there! :wings:

If possible, would someone volunteer to come in from Potato Patch and post a sign at the wobbly gate to let folks know the trail will be blocked?

EDIT - 15 SEPT 2010

Again, please bring your own tools for the day if possible.

Ranger Ron Rogers will supply some tools as needed, and U channel for blocking the off trail use area.
We will need help carring the equipment into the area. Ron's FS truck is not capable of reaching the site without damage, so we'll need to ferry in the stuff. The U channels are 7' long!

I'll be up in Sedona that weekend for a wedding but my Dad works for a safety productsd company and i'll see if I can't get him to donate some gloves, safety glasses, and masks (those with allergies) for this cleanup if yall are interested? If you are maybe we can meet up and hand off the gear. I'll be getting into Sedona on the 8th.

It's worth pointing out that currently the Prescott National Forest office is showing itself to be a model district with regard to meeting the wants and needs of the public. The officials in this district like Jason Williams and Ron Rodgers are extremely receptive to the concerns of the public, and in turn the public is showing up to these volunteer opportunities in impressive numbers.

Many of the user groups are realizing we are in a prime place in time to make our Nat Forest district a model for other districts. :wings:

The general vibe at the PNF is "let's make it happen."
