Another recommendation for a Bivy Bag. I try to carry a ground tarp and a Bivy. The tarp can be used for improved rain protection or ground cover. My favorite tarps and Bivy are made by Oware. Very light and durable. I recently started carrying a Pieps Bivy. It's easy to get in and out of, it works sort of like a poncho so no condensation issues and it makes a great improvised litter. I also have a tube tarp that can zip or unzip to lie flat and a hex tarp from IST. The SOL bivy's work well also.
