i was just wondering what kind of foam is used? when my buddy gave me his the matress wasnt there because it got wet and mouldy, recently ive been using inflatable matress, or one of the matress's out of my tent trailer which is 4" thick and obviously wont fold up with the RTT, im tired of having to blow up the matress every time i want to set up or take down the RTT, imo it kinda defeates the purpose of it. so what is used in them? im assuming its 2" or maybe 2.5" thick foam but what type and is there anywhere i can order a matress for it?

I dunno what it's made out of but the one in my ARB is HARD! We still use either a pad or air mattress under us.

FYI: Not liking the comfort, or lack of actually :), of the foam pad that came with our (then) Overland and (then) Maggiolina and (now) Kimberley Kamper I had a local mattress maker (Reno Mattress) make me a softer mattress from softer foam. He then wrapped it in a damask cover with a quilted "pillow" top. All were/are uber comfie!

You might try visiting a mattress maker local to you for info, pricing, etc. Whatever you do DO NOT go for temperature sensitive foam unless you won't be camping in temps below about 55 degrees or so as they get HARD!

In the pop top we use a 3" memory foam mattress, one that is sold to fit on top of regular bed mattresses. We simply cut it to fit and put it on top of the existing so called foam. When we break down camp, we tri-fold it and put a Hefty sack on each end to keep the trail dust off it, and put it in the back of the van above the rest of the supplies. Works perfectly for us and is comfy.

Wish I could give you links on where/how much but the wife bought it. PM me if you like the idea and I'll get the info from her. Its a quality peice and wasn't cheap, maybe $125

I received our RTT in miserable condition and no mattress t speak of. We bought a 2" memory foam mattress topper from Bed Bath and Beyond while spendy it was comfy. I might go a different route next time as we still had to utilize a set of Therma rest Luxury camp pads on top of the 2".

I like a firm mattress, and I like the foam in my Maggiolina, but I would like to have maybe 1" of softer foam on top of the Mag mattress just to take the edge off.

My Maggiolina AirLander is firm too, but I can sleep on it.
Mike at Autohome I believe uses a 1" featherbed on top of his.
