TRED 1100 in action (relatively light duty)

FWIW, I have a pair of the original TRED 1100 from Summit Racing. They served my needs well during various light-duty applications this past July, such as extending ground clearance (White Rim Rd), driving over barbed wire (shortcut to Chaco Canyon), and improving traction in mud (Medano Pass Rd) and sand.

Backroads from Bisti Badlands to Chaco Canyon

Tell me more.:p

OK, sure! :D Here is our track from the Bisti Access Parking Area to Chaco Canyon's Gallo Campground, using scenic backroads.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/955144607

After turning E from NM 57 onto CR 7980, at 36.0914463,-107.8868042 (about 1:09 into the track), there is a marked turnoff for continuing N on CR 7980 and looping around to Chaco by heading S on CR 7950 (Chaco Entrance Rd).

The shortcut is to continue straight E. After about three more minutes, you encounter the barbed wire shown in my previous post. We also had to cross a washed-out dip around 1:33, but it was fine for the stock 4th gen 4Runner. This is the route OsmAnd offline routing had given us, and it seems to coincide with the Google Maps route. It was definitely a lot of fun.

Thanks for the info. Our GPS tried taking us out the road to the west, which is barricaded. You route isn't as short, but beats taking the south exit, which is what we ended up doing.

Was that southern route out of Chaco really rough? And did you do this in your X5 if I may ask?

I went on this trip expecting not to have a mobile data connection. Then I learned the hard way not to rely solely on offline navigation apps for backcountry routes. OsmAnd sent us through the beautiful Chuska Mountains from Chinle/Canyon de Chelly North Rim to Bisti, but the roads (Navajo 30/34) got too rough for the limited time we had, so we backed out and took BIA 12 to NM 134 instead.

This experience taught me the importance of carrying sufficiently detailed paper and/or PDF maps for a combination of manual and GPS-assisted on-the-fly navigation. :)

FYA, in Alaska Offroad Warriors S1E2, position 8:05, Team Rover 1 attempt to use a pair of gray TREDs to cross a washed-out creek. ;)

For $600 you get 8 Tred Pro's (4 sets) and 2 or 3 mounting brackets. The Kickstarter is in AUS currency, I pledge for 2 sets and a mount last week (current exchange is roughly $290). Btw I grew up in Wilmington, lived there from 1990-2013.
