MBT Willy's Trailer Build Continues!

Spent the last two days working on the trailer box. I am at the point with it where I need to decide how I want to finish it.One side will be for the kitchen and food (dry goods), and the other side (the larger side) will be for chairs and other storage. I'm trying to decide what to do for the doors. I was going to make one large door for each side, but I am concerned about the doors warping. I might try having two doors on each side to split it up, still thinking. the other problem with using 1/2" ply, is hinges and latches.

Next I got out my camp stuff, and I am working on shelves and storage for the kitchen gear and the food section.

I'm going down to Home Depot tomorrow for finishing supplies. I'm still working on the color, but I want to at least get it sealed.

Got the first coat of primer on the trailer box today. But with temps of 106 here in Riverside, I didn't last long in the garage.

Mounting the tent on the trailer tomorrow morning, I have 4 days to finish what needs to be done prior to the trip.

Happy trails!

Here are some pictures of the tent mounted on the trailer. The last picture gives an idea of the height under the tent in it's lifted position.

Well the trip went very well with one one minor challenge...

It looks like the trailer's center of gravity is to high, so I have some changes to make. So back to the drawing board it is.

Happy trails!

The flop stinks, but the view was amazing. Where was that at?

Hello Highlandercj-7,

We were checking out the salt trams east of Lone Pine up around 9,500 feet. On that day we had already been out one night, and were en-route to the town of Cerro Gordo for the afternoon. A great place if you have never been there. I was planning to post a trip report with some more pictures, I just haven't done it yet. I'll get on that.

happy trails!

WoW that is scary... what hitch are you using? looks like it did what it was designed to do; your TJ is still right side up...

Ya thank God for that! We are in a steep, and very off-camber section in that shot. If I were using a stock hitch, it very possibly could have taken me with it when it went over on its side. I'm using the "Max Coupler". They have been through a couple upgrades since I bought mine, but it has served me well. They are sold through Adventure Trailers. This was the first (and I hope last) test of the hitch, but yes, it did exactly what it was designed to do, keep the tow vehicle on all fours. After reflecting on the lay over, my jeep buddy and I have some ideas to lower the center of gravity, to hopefully prevent this from happening again.

Very awesome, glad you had it. I have a lock'n'roll setup I just installed on mine. I didn't realize my spare tire on the Jku was going to be in the way so I didn't get to try it out on the trip last weekend. I like the simpler design of yours but I got this one for under 100 on an off chance eBay offer. I'll give it a shot, looks like it will do the job.

It will do the job just as well, and you can't beat that price!
