Still have neck pain? Perhaps a shorter more upright stem? A few degrees and centimeters can make a big difference in your comfort.

Neck pain yes, but it is not as bad as it was. I think the Titec H-bar helped because it has a rise built in. The dilemma is I would like to install a Thomson stem and as far as I know they only come in 31.8mm bar clamp. This would mean changing both the stem and the bar. With all of this said Tony(TD64) dropped off an adjustable stem for me to play with. I guess I should go install it and play with some different angles. Thanks for the nudge maybe I will go do that now!

Northwest Loop - February 10, 2012

Moonlander-NorthwestLoop2-6348.jpg

Some Errands, trails, bike shop, beach, lunch, and then home. The start to a good day!

Moonlander-NorthwestLoop5-6500.jpg

Part of my loop went thru the trails at Calavera Lake. There is a lot to see out here. I will need to return with some more time.

Moonlander-NorthwestLoop7-6578.jpg

Once down by the beach, I headed up to Pacific Coast Cycles for a couple of bolts.

Overview of the ride. I went counter clockwise.

Keep it going!

I used to(and still do) ride all these areas before the houses started growing there, but atleast they left us some of the original trails and even added a couple more. Its neat to see you out exploring these areas!

Have you been down by the waterfalls in san macros creek? Just north of rancho lacosta preserve over rancho st fe. I havent been down their since I was a teenager, and I think the city tries to dissuade people from going there, now.

I'll be curious as to what kind of mileage you get out of those tires. I'd guestimate your somewhere around 200-300 miles on them, any noticeable wear?

See ya on the trail sometime

Hello Chris,
I have not been to the waterfalls. My guess is this would be more of a hike then a bike ride. I will be looking into it. Thanks for the heads up. As far as the tires go. The rear one is showing some decrease in tread height. No chunks or slices. I guess time will tell. I might rotate the tires front to rear. Maybe at 500 miles. Currently my total since I started keeping track back on January 24th is 301 miles with just over 30,000 feet in elevation. By chance are you doing any of the Wednesday Night Rides out of Oak Creek Ranch?

See you out there!

Thanks for the positive feedback on the photographs. I know I am a big fan of photographs that sell the sizzle. Makes me want to get out there! I would be interested in any additional information that would add to my ride reports. I am well aware of the fact that Expo is not really a bike site. Instead I am trying to convey a sense of adventure. I think it is pretty cool that these outings are happening so close to home. Now get out there and explore your world.

Justin, awesome thread and photos - you make me want to dust off the old mountain bike and go play! Are you using a Hero cam for some of the shots?

Hello Wade,
Good to hear from you. Hope all is well. I would highly recommend dusting off that bike. You live in a great state to ride. As for the camera, most of the shots with me in it are taken with a GoPro Hero. The long landscape shoots I have been taking with my iPhone 4s using an app. called Pano. I really like this app. Looking forward to seeing you out on the trail or at OVX12.

Sunday Ride - February 12, 2012

Moonlander-Figure8w-Dave3-6669.jpg

Todays early morning ride seems like a blur. Or maybe that is because of the previous nights rain and my glasses continually fogging up. Well it was a good ride with Dave(neighbor). I showed him some of the new found trails and he fairs well for being a weekend warrior. Good Job Dave - Next week we will double the elevation and the milage. J/K

San Marcos Creek - February 13, 2012

Moonlander-SwitchbackTrail2-6707.jpg

A few pages back Chris(Bike_Mech) alluded to some waterfalls in San Marcos, Creek. Today I was limited on time, but I decided to do some exploring. Unfortunately I keep running into these signs.

Moonlander-SwitchbackTrail-6681.jpg

Before the exploring I thought I would run my usual route up to the top of La Costa Preserve to the Boy Scout Kiosk. I was pretty pleased with these numbers.

19 minutes 32 seconds to the top. 2.06 miles from the house and 6.3 mph moving average. From recollection the elevation gain is 542 feet. Not bad for a Fat Bike.

SwitchbackTrail.jpg

The new trails are to the left of the large road(Rancho Santa Fe Road). Another day I will ride the other side of the canyon which should provide better access/photographs of the falls.

Distance 9.4 miles
Elevation 1209 feet
Moving Average 7.9 mph

I think the Moonlander needs to go in the Sig line. :)

Fantastic thread and awesome photos! I remember when we spoke on the phone about how excited you were about getting this bike. Looks like it has become a fantastic purchase and a great "vehicle" for exploration and fitness.
