Mercedes G Advice/help

I recently purchased a 1988 280G and am interested in swapping the engine to an om606 with a 6 speed manual. I am wondering if it is possible and need help from anyone who has knowledge on these engines or anyone who has done anything similar to this.
I don't want any negative comments as i am seeking help on this topic as i don't know much about it. I know some G wagens came with a 4 and 5 speed manual.

If anyone has information or pictures i would really appreciate it.

Please respond with transmission code numbers so i can find some.

This forum is more aimed at expeditioneering and vehicle modifications to do this.

Hello, i have a 1988 280ge who is almost the same as yours. Except that yours has some 463 mods. I ´m located an hour from montreal. So if you are one day in that area i suggest to stop.
