Greetings all, it's been yet another exciting week of exploring in Montana.
Went on a small weekend trip to Cooke city. I'd never been up to the old mining areas north of town before, so I figured why not check it out?
I believe the pictures above are of scotch bonnet mountain, heavily scarred from the years of hopeful prospectors' attempts to hit the mother lode.
Remnants of the heavy machinery used by prospectors.
My intention for the evening was to take a very rough road several miles off the main forest service road to a nice subalpine forest full of small, fish filled lakes....Unfortunately my transfer case was acting up, forcing me to err on the side of caution.
So, I ended up heading back down to the beartooth highway. Found a sweet camp site right on the river, just in time for a great sunset!
The next day, I hit the beartooth highway. This is indeed one of the most amazing roads, filled with spectacular vistas, high alpine lakes, and 1000'+ drops!
