Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

I think we all have different definitions of “off-roading.” Frankly, as I get older, more impatient, I grow tired of snail-pace rock crawl off-roading. So does my family. If I’m going to do that, I’d just pull my UTV along and do the trails in 1/4 of the time. Then ride back home in comfort of a full size rig.
My full size rigs now are primarily for backcountry dirt roads out here in Utah and Colorado. In which, in my opinion, I’d rather have an F150 Supercrew vs any midsize truck.
I think this is the biggest problem, off roading varies a lot. I’m in Utah too and we both know neither of us are dragging our full-size trucks up mineral basin, running elephant hill, or bombing the west desert. There’s been so many people on this thread claiming their full size can go anywhere but then they post pictures of a stock truck and a damn pop up camper. Im in a 2020 Chevy 3500 and now that I’m not pulling a 42’ 5th wheel it just doesn’t make sense. For my family of four that wants to hit hard to reach hiking spots or just hit some jeep trails a midsize is making A lot more sense.

It's all up to you and your budget. What may be acceptable to some, may not be for others. We had a full sized 08' Dodge Power Wagon. It was putting us in the poor house in constant repairs. We are empty nesters now and we make due just fine. Trying to save up for a Canopy camper but life keeps happening.

I like the ZR2 just not the random electrical issues. It super cold out now so maybe make an appointment in the spring. It's on a charger/maintainer now. Think the low battery may be the culprit to some of the issues.

Just go into it knowing that it is a step down from a fullsized half ton truck. And that on a high traction surface, if common sense isn't used, it has the ability to bend its own steering tie rods. We are in our 60's and it has been fine that we downsized. I really wish that we had bed options. Regular bed, flat bed, utility bed with compartments.

Get a volt meter and test the battery. Or a simple change might be easier.

*obligatory "stock truck with popup camper" photo...

Shenanigans I get into after driving my truck 14 hours from home. It was me, a SWB '93 Ranger and three 19-23 Rangers.

F-150 sat that trip out... but it sits out pretty much all trips lol.
