I'm very interested in the pre-maid camper mounted on the fuso route.
Just wondering if I could do the 19' Scamp?
Anyone know how much would hang off the back?
Other than departure angle, anyone see any problems I might run into?
I could build really nice storage where the hitch would normally go.

Ok, so with the 19' Scamp I'd likely have to extend the frame.

That has me thinking a 19' Escape might be a better choice.

Mounting an already built and certified RV simplifies the insurance and vehicle registration efforts.

I think I've got my answers already.

Regarding the 19' Scamp vs 19' escape, the scamp is a 5th wheel and is actually 19' while the Escape is a regular trailer with 3-4' of tongue leaving a 15' body to mount on the Fuso.

The Escape is narrower than the Bigfoots which is important for where I want to go.

If you need that big a camper this truck is not the vehicle for you. The frames are weak to begin with, and extending them exponentially increases the strain on them to the point of failure. The 18" extended frame mentioned above was completely replaced with a full frame of stouter material after repeated failure. The second issue is that these trucks only have a 14000 pound gross vehicle rating. Many of the larger camper builds are far exceeding this legal weight limit. It is one thing to break the law....maybe you won't get caught. But if you are responsible for an accident it could result in a serious lawsuit. Keep in mind that these weight limits are determined by many factors. For example braking capacity. Add the fact that most people put much larger diameter tires on the trucks which severely impacts braking and you've got real problems. It would be best to reassess your goals, and if you absolutely need such a large vehicle, choose a heavier chassis.

The 19' escape has about a 16' box. I was thinking of removing the hitch completely. It's total dry weight is 2950 lb. Would that fit comfortably on the back of the Fuso?

I'm looking forward to seeing lots of ideas this coming weekend at the expo.

What looked like the same truck drove past me up at Inskip today but it had a dark grey full size canopy on the back. Can't be too many with that black and white camo. A young girl was driving.
