Looking good. So what is the order of the stack of materials in the front from metal to vinyl? I’m looking to rip out the old carpet in the cab of my chinook. It’s got a 1” lip from cab to back plywood. What do you think he max amount is that you can raise up the front area and still have the stepwell trim fit?

Chinooks are nice! Stack of materials are, bare metal, 3 coats POR15 black, butyl backed (dynamat or noico), 1/6th inch closed cell foam, then just added 1/3 inch closed cell foam, jute padding over the middle and foot areas, then vinyl. It really makes a huge difference with the noise level and overall comfort in the cabin. I would say its about 1/2” now of overall closed cell foam. When you tighten back the seat belt and seat bolts it puts the squeeze on the foam. And creates more of a dip in the immediate area since that 1/2” is being squeezed down. For the step wells it only matters if you take the insulation all the way to the lip the step well sits on. Closed cell foam will compress. If i had to do it over, I would trim back the thicker foam from the step well edge and just have the 1/6” foam or something thinner than the 1/3”. 1/3” is pushing it. Hope this helps! ?
Most of all. Take your time. When you get new carpet or vinyl. Take your time installing it. I almost messed up and had to order a new one at $160. The cuts are permanent. I spent a couple days installing it.

Ah, tapering the materials at the edges makes sense. Did you cut out where the seats bolt, or does that get compressed with the foam? Not sure how mine is setup. The 20 year old green RV carpet needs to go. Not that bad, but not that great... Do you have a good source for your vinyl? I want something that’s more utility than carpet, but not as utility as the vinyl that was in my last ambo.

Hey bud. It was not necessary to cut the foam. Just a small hole with a screwdriver. It gets squished when everything gets tight. I saw one ambo build thread use the grey black outdoor carpet from Home Depot. I got my vinyl from Stock Interiors. I think with shipping it was about 150$? Id have to check might have been 160$. I like the vinyl because you can clean it!! Everything that came out I couldnt imagine it embedded in fibers. I am thinking of cutting some light carpet, perhaps the grey stuff from home depot or lowes, for the areas where your feet go and in between the seats and around to cover the back of the seat on the floor. And its just sitting there. So it can be taken out to be cleaned.

The front area of the econoline is pretty simple, but I'd still want something slightly molded. Vinyl with then a removable carpet isn't a bad idea. Those are for sale for $95 on amazon.

Grinding the inside lip of the exterior side door. Por15 came after in black.

The red scour pad is too course. Green works great on deepish marks. White is great all around scrubber. The Dobie pad is less abrasive than the white pad.

Por 15 also on the exterior door hinge mounts for good measure. Once the fridge is in this will be blocked off by it. So....doing it right always takes time!

The drivers side exterior door. What I thought was a cool feature is a ton of work to make it all up to par. Was carefully grinding it out with a mild wire brush and getting out some loose paint. And steam cleaned it like crazy!! Its almost ready for some Por Metal Prep. Then lather on the Por 15. Inside is all done.

Saw this 2000 or so PSD 4x4 with 260k miles I think it was. Asking 19K. Bit pricey I think for no appliances or solar but looks really clean.

Por 15 everywhere! Feels good to be making progress!

Went to West Marine with my dad and grabbed a 1-1/2” bulkhead fitting. Was $16. Turns out amazon has similar type bulkead fittinfa for 5-6$. But it was cool to shop around with my dad.

The hole in the floor was the best spot. Its just above the battery box. And inline to where the charge controller will go up above where the switch panel is. Under the floor there are different things in the way. Either way, one hole must be made on the floor and one on the battery box. If it was made on the other side of the battery box and used the existing cable openings. I would have to make a hole through the 3/4” subfloor and sheet metal. And the inline fuse would have been harder to reach.

40 gallon water tank. Installed under the bench. Will get strapped in soon! 16x10x55 ish inches.

Eymos Welding!! To the rescue. Awesome fab work on the 40 gallon tank frame. Will be bolted through the floor to secure it. Touching up the battery slide.

Only Lowes had 1/2” polyiso sheets. My cabinets are 16” for the Dometic CRX50. And the fridge is 15”. So this will give me the 1/2” on each side when I slide it in.

I’m planning to add a bit of extra insulation to the sides of my CRX50. When the dust settles I’m installing an 18” wide microwave in 10” high space above it.

Cool. Yea. Will be interesting to see how much it brings the amp draw down with the extra insulation? I have heard mixed reviews with microwaves space and how often it gets used. Will you have shore power for the microwave?

Used some Gorilla epoxy to seal up a small and minor ding on the roof. Was there when I bought it. Its going to be covered by the solar setup. Therefore needs to be cleaned up and sealed well now.

Bought some RMAX 2”. To place on the top, bottom and back of the Dometic. The .5” is for the sides. Too bad you have to buy 4x8 sheets. When you dont need it all.
