Montero question

I am considering picking up a 1998 montero for DD purposes and maybe some expo. It has 200,000 miles. They are asking $2800. It is not in my local area but it is local for my folks(so I can have someone trusted look at it). I was told it has all the options. The body looks very nice. I don't have all the history yet but that is in work. Basicly what needs checked out/wear items. I normally do all my own work but I would be picking this up while visiting family and then driving it back to alaska. So it would need baselined then roadtrip prep. What would be a deal breaker? How off is the price?

Thanks for all the help

Pat

Understand the more money less miles. Just an option to replace my dd(dead cracked piston) with something where the po is a family friend. Trying to mitigate some of the risk of buying a used vehicle.

Oh yeah would be driving from Missouri to Alaska if that gives some perspective.

If the PO is a family friend, have your folks check to see if there are any service records for the last 100k miles or so to show timing belt replacement. If it has the 3.5 DOHC V6, check to see if they've had any issues with the crankshaft position sensor and/or key. I had the crankshaft key shear on my 95 twice. Talk about bad luck. Fortunately, it didn't cause any other damage. I miss that truck.

Also check to see if it has the electronically adjustable shocks and if so, whether they were replaced with adjustable or non-adjustable shocks. At 200k miles, they'd better have been replaced with something! ;)

The attached file is everything you might want to know about your rig, including original MSRP, installed equipment, date sold, etc...

Unfortunately, I can only transfer the data into Excel, so it ain't pretty!
