Anyone have a source for a montero IRS 9.5 rear diff shims? Mitsu part number is MR508116 and is backordered from mitsubishi. Any other rear diff that would use this shim?
OD 88mm
Id 75mm

Check with your local transmission repair shop. They probably have the shim by size, not part number.

No luck with local stuff. I'm sure if I had a good connection, but I tried a few transmission shops and some differential shops. None would help. Most of the differential places said they only know the application of the shims and were not interested in matching up OD and ID. Ironically the front and rear shims are listed as Mopar parts as well and considerably cheaper. I called around and it looks like they are still a special order items from Japan. Good info if someone can order them and avoid the Mitsu price premium.

The rear carrier was an absolute nightmare to get out of the housing and one of the shims ended up bent. I may be able to save it, but I guess I can pull the original housing and hopefully one of those shims with work with the smaller shims provided by ARB. If anyone pulls the carrier on a Montero, a case spreader is absolutely needed. It will NOT come out without a case spreader. What a pain in the ass that turned into.

On the plus side, when you really dig into the Montero, you see how well built these trucks are. The rear diff is a monster. 9.5in ring gear puts most 1/2 ton trucks to shame. Even the 8in up front is formidable compared to a lot of vehicles in the segment.

The part number appears to be for the front diff. I have shims for the rear diff and none are that large. I could be wrong.

Edit: Could be a Gen3 and I have a Gen2.

did you solve your issue? If not I just realized that I may have a couple in a 9.5" carrier that I'll be scrapping soon. How thick are the shims you seek?

Thanks PLH. I used a belt sander and was able to make the OEM shims work. The rear turned out really good. The front I got lazy and the back lash was too big. Sure enough it whines in 4wd, so I guess its coming out again to re-do. The front is a pain in the ass, but o well. I bet I get it right the second time!!

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
The shims come in a pack, enough to do a couple setups typically. Good to see more people installing ARB air lockers, the only way these things will continue to exist is if we buy them.
