Ok Montero gurus. Would a 3.5 motor from a montero sport fit (minimal to no modification) into a gen 3 (montero 2001 3.5l). Helping a friend research and unable to find it online. He overheated his motor and has been depressed looking for a gen 3 motor at an affordable price. Thanks.

Yes, depending on year he may need to swap over sensors between motors, it has been discussed before.
Should, but 2001-02 models have the oil filter on the opposite side of the block (similar to gen 1). Its a different block all together. That also changes part numbers for the water pump and all timing accessories. You will likely run into issues with your oil cooler and possibly some other small items.
Yea would have been great to keep them all the same since gen 1. Not too hard to work around though if you don't mind a challenge.
Yea you might have to so some minor fab work. Hopefully not.
