Yea, Pirate, mine had a bit of corrosion on them, like they had been sitting for a long time, it contributed to the not engaging part and the apparent lack of grease, but that's really only packing grease so taking them apart and packing some grease in there will definitely help (it's made mine work a little better) Here they are.
Little bit corroded, especially on the inner parts, may have to clean them up and then grease them good.
Also like I was talking about earlier, these don't appear to be Aisin hubs (I thought they were going to be) but some company named SHX, I assume just another copy cat company, we'll see how this shiny cast metal holds up...
I know Paul said that they come from some local place in Shanghai (??) that makes them, I guess I had assumed it was Aisin branded, or just a Mitsubishi manufacturing company. Ah well. Good price for sure! Thanks Paul! Just need some good cleaning and sanding.

My parts were also corroded. However, mine simply will not fit together. The big gray/metal ring on the face plate does not engage with the inner ring. I was able to get one side to work when spinning the wheel in reverse (by hand) but it would disengage as soon as I switched directions. On the other side I gave a very light tap to the ring and was able to get the teeth to engage but now it won't pull apart. Mine are definitely defective.

haven't heard from him, I have a 1,000+ miles trip planned for starting saturday so I'm in a bit of a pickle.

Ouch... did you try to pry it up 'gently' with something weaker than the metal like a piece of wood or something?

no I didn't mess with it too much, doesn't really matter since neither of the hubs work

I also had trouble with getting the engagement to work, after first spraying them with lubricant to get rid of any grime and displace water and then greased them--they work a lot better now, almost perfectly.
Worse comes to worse, Daniel (bdmontero) on monterosportonline.com forums rebuilds true Aisins and ships them out for free with custom paint jobs for $200 currently. Not sure if he has any currently, but he's really great about quality.
He's just over in Wichita, Kansas if your trip is headed in that direction, otherwise he may be able to next day air it to you.
On a side note, I had to completely disassemble mine also to make sure no parts were binding, that really seemed to help and it helped me understand how these things work...really easy.

ya there's a set on ebay too but I thought these would be new aisin or at least same quality. I would order those but I'm not sure if I can get a refund or what plh wants to do....

I saw that set on ebay the other night actually too, I had been checking for months before and never saw an Aisin hub pop up until that one. Kind of shot myself in the foot with this pruchase, but like you I thought they were Aisin.
The problem most likely stems from the storage that these were in. I was following another thread and these hubs he probably brought back last october/november so they've been sitting first of all on some shelf in China for who knows how long, then they came and sat here for at least 6+ months (these could also be from a previous trip). With the little amount of grease that was inside of these, not surprised that they have some corrosion.

went home for lunch and cleaned and lubed the heck out of the one that was kiiiinda working, it helped but it does not fully engage and jams up easily. After seeing your issues I want a refund on these so I can buy some actual OEM/aisins
