Hey, well I've been around the Forums for a while poking around and have even started a few small threads. I have finally purchased my new Vehicle, well almost two months ago (college keeps me busy). I also could not get a hold of a camera either. The pics suck they were taken with my phone, but without further ado heres my baby.

Nice looking truck. Those are capable trucks and can handle a lot of abuse. Welcome to Expedition Portal. Keep us apprised of the mods.

Very cool. What else can you tell us about the truck. Year? 4wd? Engine? How many passengers, etc.

Sorry, but I don't know much about those.

So is that the Montero Sport?

Yeah I know what you mean I just ran into this one on a car lot then jumped on the PC and started the research. After the test drive i fell in love with it. you can check out http://www.monterosportonline.com/ for a lot of useful info

As for more info on my MS it is an 01 Montero Sport with a 3.0L SOHC v6 4WD
Size wise it is very similar to a Grand Cherokee, if i am remembering correctly the MS is and inch shorter but is an inch wider than the GC.

Haven't done much off road driving except for some old haul roads around my home town, as I don't know anyone around here to go as back up for getting stuck. plus i dont know of too many legal places to go either.

If there are anymore specific questions please feel free to ask and ill answer to the best of my ability, and thanks for all the positive comments. Its nice to have a place to learn and grow instead of being bashed and belittled.

IIRC - and I totally may not - the Montero Sport uses either the same frame or a modified version of the old body-on-frame Montero - which means it is a tough rig.

Not sure what the aftermarket is like for it, but there's got to be at least as much stuff out there for the Montero sport as there is for a Trooper or Montero or a similar type of truck.

Looks great! I drove one and liked it before I bought the Trooper - just couldn't find one with the color/options I wanted. They are a great bargain, too.

I've found a few assorted items for the MS but not much. ARB sells an OME lift good for 2" and its the only one I found that I have found. Some of the members on Monterosportonline.com have custom body lifts made but seem to be discontinued from what I've read. ARB also has a bullbar to fit the older MS but could easily be modified to fit newer models. Other than that I'm coming up short on any other parts.

Thanks again for all the responses, still waiting for a chance to test out how it does off road, but I have to find a group that knows what there doing before I go (If there 's anyone near the area that would like to take a short trip PM me I'd love to meet some of the members near my area)

At least the stuff that is available is good quality - OME and ARB. It is surprising that stuff for them isn't easier to find - I still see a decent number on the road.

But a lift, some tires, and some custom-fabbed sliders would get you a long way off the beaten path - even without a big aftermarket... :truck:

Neat, I want to se someone build one of these up... Get the OME lift, you'll love the ride and the lift. I've always thought these were great looking trucks, just don't see many built up, nor do i know much about the drivetrain cause of the lack of publicity.

In my experience you've got to go outside the US to find the decent aftermarket stuff for the Montys. They have always been popular outside the US (as the Pajero) but sort of a red-headed stepchild (or mall cruiser) in the US. :(

You've got a nice vehicle there. I've got the truck version.

I assume that your IFS is the same as mine. You can get a choice of torsion bars and shocks in SA and Oz. OME, Iron man, etc. We have a locally made coilover shock as well made by Camil. http://www.camilsuspensions.co.za/

If you're into bling there is a front suspension lift available in the East somewhere, Taiwan or thereabouts, with the whole dropped crossmember story.

Nice truck, definatly looks better than the choice of Mitsubishi trucks over here (our rebadged Dodge Dakota) anyway rant over. Great truck I've never seen one before. (I need to get out of this country)

My son-in-law drives an '04 Montero Sport. He's been following me in my Disco on trails in northern Nevada for the past three years.

Aftermarket off-roading equipment for it is almost nil.

It's damned reliable and economical to drive.

The front bumper, the flimsy front skid and front diff are pretty low and vulnerable.

I tend to have to pull him out of stucks on almost every trek as the truck doesn't have any kind of limited slip or locking differentials, traction control or articulation.

The engine has plenty of poop to pull it up almost anything as long as he can keep all four wheels on the ground and it's not snow, mud or sand.

- It reall needs at least a 2 inch lift, a limited or locked rear diff and a set of BFG TA/KOs. If someone knows of a lift kit and locker for it let me know....
