I realize the G63 may seem a bit over the top, but the G550 is plenty power and the same otherwise, in fact easier to set up for real use. The new RR however really is too softened for me especially with all the things like tire size limitations. I looked at one yesterday and they are quite cool and comfortable though.

On $100k AEV, I don't think I'd spend that much on one or the Earthroamer. I do like the Unimog based vehicles but then the $ is up another few steps as well.

I know you aren't into the new LC 200 but maybe it's the sweet spot on an overall package. Affordable but nice enough, rugged and reliable still, right in between the limitations for modifications with G being highly open to mods and Land Rover LR4/RR being less modifiable.

On the rovers you have the air suspension to "worry" about or be in trouble if it were to fail in any one of the system segments. On the LC you have reliable steel springs but still have the hydraulic KDSS system. Worst case though the KDSS leaks out and you have simply softer sway bar control on the way home.

The G also has computers but how likely is it the engine or transmission will give out on any of the 3 makes. I am however looking at these as 10-20 year vehicles, not just what would be cool right now or for a few years while under warranty.

In my opinion, and it's just MY opinion, if someone is considering the three you mentioned (LC 200, G550, RR) for real overlanding over the long term, the G will be quintessential 20 years on. The RR and LC will be relatively overlooked compared to other LR/RR and LCs through history. The G is the original, not something else coasting of the achievements of their predecessors. In 2025 we will look at Gs like we look at Defenders today.

if i want cushy, ill buy a new caddy.

the independent rangie has as much flex as the G.thats sad, or amazing, depending on your perspective.

as far as solid feel goes? take two women from rodeo, that dont know the history or what a ladder frame is, and they will tell you the rangie feels more solid and the G's locks sound as cheap as they are. its all in your head. they must have bought out 1975 NOS f series stock for those mechanisms.

Id still buy the G if it was either or.

good god, merc, put a color on it, quit being so afraid to offend.

The market doesn't agree with you. Have you priced a US Defender lately?

price isnt what i as talking about, but in that regard, mu old NAS i tried to dump on brady for 50g, and he turned down, just resold for 90.

have you priced a defender in england? it all has to do with finite production runs for US legal trucks. #238 new in 93, 40,000. 20 years later in excellent condition, 90,000. G in the US the same year was 120,000. today in excellent condition youre lucky to get 30,000.

the 110 imports are rusted tin reserved for wannabe suckers.

so, in that regard, youre still wrong.
