Mount Rainier 2/13

Took a trip up to Mt. Rainier on Sunday (2/13) with the S/O. It was our "valentines day" so to speak as we both had to work different schedules today. We drove up to Paradise, which was the only part of the mountain open right now. Weather was surprisingly nice, although there was a new weather front moving in by the time we left it was starting to snow. Road's were good all the way to the park entrance, a couple miles in they started getting icy/slushy, and we were in a cavalier :), but not bad enough to chain up.

Got to the Jackson Visitor center and I was surprised how many people were there, although I'd say 95% of them were just there playing with the kids at the sledding area right near the parking lot. So we took off to get away from the tourists and all the people...Hiked about a mile and a half around the side of the mountain..We usually go further but didn't have our snowshoes with us, and we weren't sure how long it would be before the next weather system rolled in, so we didn't want to get caught too far away. Anyways, after about a half mile of hiking we only saw one other person and he was on cross country ski's until we returned to the touristy area :) Once we got to a good stop point, we busted out some munchies and sammiches and had a nice little picnic enjoying the beautiful mountain and complete silence. Here's a few pictures, batteries died not too far is, so I didn't get to take as many as I was hoping.

Great pics.

Just the day before they had to shut down upper Crystal Mountain Ski Resort as there were winds clocked I believe over 100 MPH up there.

Sunday was def the better day for your outing up at Rainier.
