Wow great find my man! Mind telling what tire / wheel size those are? Any issue with rubbing on the qugley calipers or wheel wells? My quigley came with smaller tires, wondering how big I could go...
We'll Im back from the 2,900 mile, 8 day trip from PA to CA. Fun trip, no issues. Slept in the van all but one night (friend's house). It was a great experience as you really start to experience how you naturally want to use the van which guides how you should build it out. Here are a couple photos from the trip:
Im starting to think of what to do with the flooring.
My requirements for the flooring are:
Very durable, needs to handle dirty wet ski boots
Dog hair proof, no carpet
Able to rinse out easily; Im used to being able to hose my old JK out with a hose
Looks decent
Doesn't add a ton of extra weight
Ive seen a lot of people put insulation down on the floor which seems like a terrible idea for wet environments. Also Im more concerned about insulating the ceiling and walls vs the floor (heat rises); although it does need some. Id start out with a bed liner or undercoating to prevent rusting. Im thinking about using cork to even out the unevenness of the floor ribs. Im still not sure if/what base board to use. Plywood doesn't seem like the best idea in a wet environment either. For the actual floor Im looking at rolls of polyvinyl.
I took out the nasty old rubber mat today and hosed it down. There is a bit of rust and some random holes that Ill need to deal with, but nothing too bad. The main body frame bolts look fairly rusted out, so Im going to replace at least a couple of those. Also need to clean up the overspray from the previous insulation foam and some crappy caulking. Ill hit it with the sander and pressure washer to give it a final clean. Next step will be to fabricate some underboxes/mounts for the house battery and water. I also removed the under spare tire so I have some room to work with. Still not sure exactly where those are going...
What was under the mat.. Clearly the van was used by an electrical worker.
I got the new body frame bolts in the mail today. I read this thread which provided a lot of useful info, although I havent had problems with taking the old rusted bolts out. I purchased the bolts from Fastenal and per that thread's recomendations got the smaller 160mm size (links below). Going to install them soon, might give them a quick rustoleum paint before hand.
