It seems I'm not the only one who's had this problem, but after almost 5 years of faithful (and surprising) service, my MV50 finally started giving me issues. It wasn't that the compressor was failing, or the motor, but the crap fittings for the air hose were leaking and the little guy couldn't keep up.
I pulled the old one out, and found that it was no where close to the standard 1/4NPT air fittings. I thought about tapping it out but I didn't feel like buying a pipe tap and didn't want to disassemble the head (can't chip that beautiful red paint!). I did notice how close the size and thread pitch was though to a 1/8NPT. So I went over to the plumbing section and bought what I needed to use standard 1/4NPT quick disconnects.
The useless awful crap that came on it.
The nipple to adapt to the stock threads.
Reducer.
Barbed fitting for the hose side, just cut off the stock fitting and hose clamped it on.
The results.
The result is not as slick or packable, but with the release on the compressor side it's a bit more standardized. The whole thing cost about $8 (cheaper than a $55 replacement) and will keep me going for a while until I buy something built in the USA, if I can find one, because I'm tired of everything I buy coming from the people's republic.
