What kind of mpg do you see in this 4runner?? I have heard their range isn't the best, is this true?

Right now, in the last two tanks I have got 16.29 MPG and 16.85 MPG. I am doing a tune-up this week, which will consist of new Spark Plugs, Wires, and O2 sensors. I'll eventually replacing PCV Valve, as well as Fuel Filter. I am hoping, with a turnout of 18+ MPGs, and range in the 260+ mile area. My range right now is 210-225. I drive very conservatively and always using cruise (under or at 65 MPH). If there is a downside to this vehicle, it is it's fuel mileage and range. The ride, build quality, and world class reliability all outweigh it too me though.

Great photos, I should have you do some highlight photos of my rig.

Thank you. You're just down the road, and have a killer lookin' 4Runner... Why not!

would be interested to see mileage report after tune up

I will post further MPGs after I fill the tank. I'm hoping to see somewhat of an increase, but if anything it allows me to create a good baseline, or a beginning, on what maintenance has been performed on this vehicle. I forgot to add, but the Throttle Body and MAF were also thoroughly cleaned.

Your vehicle may be different, but via GPS i was able to verify that with 265/75/16's my speedo is approximately 10% off. It reads 10% slow at most given speeds, so my actual distance traveled is different than my indicated distance travel.

If this is true in your vehicle as well, your mpg numbers may vary.

Mike,

You brought up a good point. Because of this, the next time I was out on the HWY, I made sure to GPS verify speed. Speedometer in the 4Runner at 65MPH, states on the GPS 64MPH, and occasionally flickered on 65MPH. Speedometer appears to not be off.

Also check the odometer. My Jeep and Sequoia both indicate the correct speed, but the miles recorded are off a bit.

Your 4R looks great. This has inspired me to look seriously at a 4R, and I like your logic about a 99/00 with locker. I have seen many on various search sites and looked at mud for more info. I notice the locker switch is to the left of the steering column. Does Toyota put some other switch in that location if there is no locker? or just a blank plate?
Many I have shopped on the i'net do not show a closeup photo to that part of the dash. I do not want to contact the used car dealers until I find the right few to narrow down the selection.

Thanks in advance

That's the next step. I'll be checking the odometer on one of them highways odo checks next. Good suggestion!

There is not another switch located if there is no locker. Instead, it looks like an empty template where one should be. The RR Diff Lock will be in bright orange also, which should catch your eye as soon as you check the interior of the T4R. If you got any more questions, regarding your search for your 4Runner, feel free to ask and i'll do my best to give you an answer. Good luck with your search!

NICE RIG! I just picked up a 4Runner last week, such a solid vehicle, and like you just smile when I see it. Toyota is the way to go; they simply build well engineered vehicles. I searched for months before I found my gem, and wanted a Dbl cab Taco but I found WAY more value for my money with the 4Runner. I will post up soon. Cheers

Thanks. Congratulations on your new purchase. After having ownership for a month with this vehicle; I am quite pleased, as well as having my expectation exceeded with the Toyota name. Post up pics when you get the chance!

Congrats on the purchase! I never commented in your XJ build thread, but I enjoyed reading it. IMO, you built it properly. You went with mild, useful mods, which is a bit against the grain for that vehicle. I'm interested to see how your 4R turns out.

I bought a '99 XJ in '01 with 24k miles on the odo, and had a Toyota previously. I can honestly say the XJ had a coolness factor, but I really prefer the Toyotas. I agree they just seem more solidly built and are much more comfortable. Enjoy the drive!

Thank you! Without the help of many others, that XJ would have never been were it stood on the day I sold it. I still miss the XJ to it's day, but owning the 4Runner has made it much more easier to move on. I'm just saving the funds in order to get this 4Runner moving in the direction that I want. Thanks for stopping by!

B&M 70268 Transmission Cooler went in today. Cheap insurance, as well as piece in mind while trying to avoid the notorious "pink milkshake". My Radiator was replaced prior to purchasing with a metal unit, so all good there.
