Two Words.. Love it.. Wait did I say love it.. I Mean LOVE IT!..
This IS one of the best builds I've ever seen.. I wish I had the talent and know how to get a Cummins In our 08.. from last search.. it would cost nearly 12K for the engine and install Not including the Jeep has to be lifted 4".. But then We've never be able to get into it without a escalator.

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate it! I know its not really the ideal overland vehicle, as I have it set up more for rough trails, but I'm planning to do a lot of trips with it. I also have a trailer I started on that I'll hope to finish this year as well.

AngryRedBird, It's really not as hard as you would think. A lot depends on where you get your engine and if you choose to rebuild it. Also, If it is not your daily driver that would also help for the down time. There are a few shops that do it for a lot less than say, bruiser conversions. One is here In Tennessee, TN Diesel Conversions. I've recommended them to a guy and his jeep is being converted right now. But, considering that you have a Jk, your drivetrain can handle the extra stress. All you would need is an adapter plate, and some odd's and ends under the hood and some wiring. I do know that Bruiser sells a kit that is DIY, you provide the engine, for around 5K +/-. It may be worth looking into.

Thanks for that.. and it's been about 4 years since we've been to see our relatives in TN.. But it is just a dream of mine.. Diesel In the jeep.. ECO/BIO Still in the garage..

Very cool work up on your rig...love it! Have been toying with doing something similar, but using the 5 cylinder turbo mercedes engine from a sprinter van in my 2000 cherokee...looking forward to seeing more of this build as it progresses...

Lucky for me, wiring up the engine is really simple. Only a 12 volt wire running from the starter as the ignition switch, the battery cables, and the fuel solenoid, which is just one wire. I really just wanted to make sure everything ran well before I started re assembling everything, So I went ahead and spent 8 hours checking and rechecking over the engine. I made a makeshift oil pressure gauge, primed the fuel system, filled the engine with oil, temporarily set up my radiator, and gave it a whirl.

I don't know why it's not embedding it, but here you go.

Does anyone know how to embed?

Copy video address and click the icon that looks like a film strip. (second row, fourth group, last icon in group.) If that makes sense.

AWESOME BUILD!

I've heard that those engines are about the only good thing out of those vans. There is a guy that lives around here that actually has a huge sticker, or lettering I should say, that covers his entire rear window that says, something like, "This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned, mercedes has terrible customer service, I've had tons of problems, blah blah. . . " Pretty bad marketing for them haha. But the engine is awesome though. If you decide to, post up a build!

Very nice!

Definitely an awesome build!

I've got an old Scout 800, that I dropped a 4BT into. Other than the noise at idle, I really like it.
It's a pretty perky engine with a bit of adjustment on the pump, and more turbo.
Will be looking forward to your first "drive report". :smiley_drive:

Man I love scouts. I was considering doing that instead when I started mine. What else do you have in that beast as far as the drivetrain and axles?

Running a 4L60E, Dana 300 with Teralow gearset, and Dana 44s front and back. I have a Ford Hi Pinion D44 to build, which will be easier on the driveshaft with the lift & big tires.
If I was into sand or mud, I don't think I'd have done the Teralow, but for trails it's really nice to roll along slowly and enjoy the scenery. :)

Really like your drivetrain choice, and the way you did the links. Should be an absolute beast off road.
If I'd known then what I know now (Scouts try to return themselves to the ground by turning into rust...), I'd have done an LJ.
Great choice!

Here's a shot of the swap.

Wow that is beautiful. Where did you get your intercooler piping setup? I've been looking on different sites to find something. And what intercooler are you running? I'm going to be interceding it, I'm just not sure with what yet.

Your 4BT LJ is pure porno. I feel dirty reading this...

Way to get it done! How are the vibrations?

Thanks! It honestly wasn't that bad from what I saw. I had the machine shop balance every thing, the crankshaft, cam, pistons, and flywheel, as well as the clutch. So it was pretty smooth. I'll know more when I get everything set back in.
