Your van looks awesome. I agree with the post about having a great color with the doors on both sides and to top it off, AWD. Best combo right there!

on the interior, have you covered over your windows in the back with something?
Could not tell from the pics, but kinda looks like something besides windows?

Yes, they are covered with Masonite panels that are wrapped in automotive carpet. May make walls with slide-able windows for morning views but the back windows and doors work well for that

Buumper and swing installed before paint

Looks great! Do you find too much flex when it's opened (especially with the box full and bike) or it handles it fine? The only change I would have done is put the axle pivot on the passenger's side so when open it would hang curb side instead of traffic side but that's a small detail. Very nice job!

Not too much sag, I don't plan to load the box with overly heavy items, just odds and ends you don't need or want in the cab. I will make a telescoping "kickstand" that hinges down for when I have it open for long periods. I put the hinge on that side to make it easier if I need to access the door that opens first quickly, not having to open the gate all the way. Then it made sense that my awning usually goes on the driver side and the swing can come all the way around to make a nice table and work station on the toolbox fold down. I'll snap some pics on my next trip... 10 days away :)

You pretty much nailed all my self justification before pulling out the cash. Thanks!
It does great on the roads I need to travel and its driven right into some camp sites I would never have guessed with ease. Wheels are 17x9 0 offset 4.5 Back. Tires are 275/70r17, I had some 285's but they were just too wide.
Bumper pics coming...

You really improved the departure angle with all that work, the factory hitch and spare both hang really low, any plans for the front?

Thanks for the reply I am looking at wheels, check your numbers it seems wheel backspacing and offset are not right. I think your wheels are 0mm offset on a 9" wheel with 5" backspace, a 4.5" backspace would be -13 on a 9" wheel.

If you do the math a 4.5" b/s and a 9" wheel would push the front edge of the wheel out 2.5" from stock and be more likely to rub, even a 1/2" matters when cramming.

Using the common 2-3" key lift and fitting 275/70-17's on a 9" wheel with no rubbing is great info. I just want to make sure we are not steering anybody wrong, so also mentioning messing with offset does change the geometry "be warned", backspacing helps tell you what will actually fit.

You usually want a little less backspacing than stock when adding bigger tires and lifts but it comes at the expense of some offset and gets worse when wheel width is added.

I'm sure I'll build a front after I forget about building the rear.

YOU area right on the specs... I was looking at a receipt from another vehicle. Will delete previous post

Nice set up Overland, the dual-side doors are great.

If you ever think of sharing the plans for the box/bumper mount let me know. Would be a nice addition to our rig. I've toyed with the idea of the swingaway style boxes but mounting to the hitch would put a damper on our off-road activities. Wife would luv to have that option.

as an FYI on the tire size... we've been running 265/70/r17's on ours with ~3" lift without any issues, and spare fits, barely.

Thom, what is the offset/backspacing on your aftermarket wheels?

There are fewer wheel choices when backspacing is considered, thanks guys..............

BTW a 17x9 and 275-70 is a sweet combo...........

Greetings,
Well... I don't remember the offset details but if you have a Les Schwab dealership in your area you could ask them for details on their stock number 292265 Fuel 17 x 9 wheels. That is what they installed and they are still a hot in-stock item for them.

Looks like you have the Boost D534 http://www.fueloffroad.com/boost-d534-w-381.htm

I could not get that 292265 number to reference and Fuel makes 4 different choices for backspacing/offset on the same wheel was the part number on the paperwork?.
They actually make a 17x9 wheel with the stock 5.5" backspacing which would still push the outer edge of the wheel out 1.5" and look a little better, just due to the 1.5" wider than stock wheel. Probably the best fitting 9" wheel as far as offset is concerned it has +14mm vs +31 stock, and a good choice by your tire guy if that is what you run. The 5.75" backspace wheel might rub on the inside, especially if lifted..

I am going to post this wheel info in the AWD van info thread after we figure which wheel you run and stop clogging up overland_drifter's build..

**EDIT**..Got the info on the stock number, the wheels have 4.5" B/S and -12 O/S.........
