Bummer ... had hoped to see this come to fruition. Ah well. It'll still be a beast with the motor you're using instead.

It's cheaper to run a GM 6.0L or 5.7L V8, but I'm too Nissanic :). Still, won't throw that engine from future plans :). The TB42E 4.2L had a good power with its 170 hp, so a 245hp, if kept stock, would be good in the meanwhile.

Still, the VK56DE story won't end here. It's only delayed, hopefully :)

Making some calls to get a 2004-2006 4WD one with the sensor in the crank from the US. It's super cheap there, around 2000 US $. Here it's between 5000-10,000 US $!!! There are some companies here import cars and engines from the US, so expect better updates!

The one we dealt with most tuners don't know how to work with it properly as the engine starter sensor needs to be planted in the transmission housing. It fits Nissan Xterra, Navara, Pathfinder, Z transmissions as they got the sensor in the transmission housing too. But I want Patrol's, although Xterra's 6-speed MT idea is floating around.

A TB48DE is priced around 3000 US $, TB45E is about 2000 US $, and my old TB42E is around 1000-1500 US $. So I got some back-up! I only need a crank and a head to complete the TB48DE, it's nearly brand new and got built with 2500 $ already.

Will update soon :)

That's too bad to hear, sucks that the cost is so high!

The big engine would be sweet, but I don't think I'd have the guts to do it. Every time I go fooling with the engines in my trucks, they get less reliable. Something always goes BOOM!

Props to you though, your plans are sick my friend! :D

The guy is just trying to steal from me, there is nothing known as Haltech 3000! Haltech Platinum Sport 2000 is the highest, and I doubt that I need more than the Haltech Sprint 500 as I just want the stock power with bigger exhaust and better air-intake!

I just wanna take the risk :) Always been dreaming of a VK56DE on my Patrol! Nissan brought a military/police spec Y60 Patrol with a VK56DE and a 5-speed MT in 2011 for about 18,000 OMR (46,000$ approx.). It was in our Nissan showroom as a sample and the rest were taken for the police/military fleet. The new Y62 is there too.

Nissan Patrols are everything here, the law keepers:

And the law breakers! These two were caught driving over 300+ km/h! (185+ mph) in Dubai

Although the TB48DE is one of the ultimate tuning engines ever, I'm addicted to the V8 roar :)

One of those is a Navara! :D

I understand what you mean by the sound. Secretly, my favorite ever engine sound is a Jaguar or BMW I6. Makes me weak in the knees. ;)

I was doubting that but said they say a patrol then it's a chopped one! We got the Navara, Armada, Pathfinder, Xterra coming from Nissan's US factories.

The head of Dhofar "my region" police is only 2 km away (1 mile). So with a silecencer the 6cyl doesn't sound that good, the V8 can't be totally silenced! Or you can say:"Hey, it's a V8, what can I do!". And you can getaway with it ;) Because they know that the Patrol with the OEM exhaust system sounds like a vacuum machine! Not like this:

I have the same exhaust system, it's made in Dubai, UAE. Police caught me and gave me 2 hours to change it or the car to be pulled and get a 200$ fee + changing the exhaust sys too! Well, came next day but with the job done :coffeedrink:. Found a 3" silencer, didn't know there is a silencer that big :).

This is the only sound that can beat V8's, a 1000+hp TB48DE 4.8L I6 Nissan Patrol. Of course, illegal!

Good news! Got a GCC-spec 2006 Nissan Armada's VK56DE with crankshaft positioning sensor (the last one was US-spec Nissan Titan's 2WD with a complicated transmission sensor) for about 4900 US $. With a new Haltech Platinum Sport 2000 and custom wiring harness to be done in my country instead, but 1200 km to the north!

So, a new VK56DE with a 6-months warranty from the seller and easier to tune. This project has lots of drama!

Haha! Thanks :)

Updates:

The engine was priced at 4900$ but after a discount got it for about 3600$. With all the work, adapters, custom wiring harness, Haltech Platinum Sport 2000, some extra tuning for more power = 2600$ approx. A total of 5400$ + shipping the car to the northernmost part of the country (~1200 km) for about 25 days after they receive it. You may say 6000-7000$ if something new comes across.

Details of the whole recent project - Phase 1:

- 2006 Nissan Armada's VK56DE 5.6L V8 engine 320hp@5200rpm / 393 lb-ft@3400rpm (GCC-spec, 95 octane petrol) ~ 3600$
- Haltech Platinum Sport 2000.
- Custom wiring harness.
- Custom headers and exhaust system.
- Custom adapter for Nissan Patrol's 5-speed MT.
- TRD Clutch kit ~ 470$
- HKS 4-row chrome radiator for Nissan Patrol Y61 model. ~ 220$
- Quad electric cooling fans.
- Chassis restoration and rustproof paint ~ 800$
- Infiniti FX45 wire throttle ~ 410$
- 2" body lift.

Phase 2:

- Speedhut.com custom gauges.
- 1 or 2 winches.
- HIDprojectors.com headlights with red devil eyes.
- Roll cage.
- Recaro/Bride/ or any other sport 2 front seats with the belts.
- Racing steering wheel.
- Dashtaq LCD touchscreen gauges reader.
- Big stationary air compressor system with bolt gun.

Arguable projects:

- 4 manual/hydraulic jack system mounted in the chassis.
- 4 tires separated air compressor wires, or maybe a direct 4 tires pumps.

These are most of what are in mind/process. More details will be shown during/after each one/all done.

Tell me about it! I barely sleep lately :Wow1:. Over-reading about the vk56 swaps and over-thinking about the project all day/night!

The car will be far away from me and my mechanic cousin will be with it all the time for about 25 days! He's paying most of the project and I'm cutting the loan monthly! Can't find a better cousin :) Thanks Amer :wings: He's left with zero-profit from this project, if not lost a couple of $$$$ too! The whole story will be told :)

I've been quietly following along. Call me impatient but I can't wait to see the finished product :)

Nice choice on the engine. Definitely going to make a new truck out of this older Patrol. I want video with no music just engine sounds when it is done, please. :)
