My Arabian Nissan Patrol 1997 Y60 (GQ)

Man, I love that your car. If you keep on showing such great pics and stories, I would be forced to make you an offer on that car that you would not be able to refuse. LOL.

Keep up the great work.

LOL! Problem is you can't import it to the USA. You may import a 1988 model which is the start of this Y60 model, German spec might fit *_^.

Thanks for your compliments :)

Back!

The car is being rebuilt at the moment with big plans ahead! Strapped the engine out and going to fit the VK56DE 5.6L V8 engine taken from 2005 Nissan Titan with slight tunes!

The chassis is being cleaned from rust and will be painted with rust-proof paint then black paint. Changing lots for out-dated parts in the car.
Main plans are:

- Nissan's VK56DE 5.6L V8 engine with slight tunes to push it around 350-370 hp (260-275 kW) or more and 400+ lb-ft of torque (542+ Nm).
- Dual battery system.
- Front winch and maybe another one back!
- Front Diff-Lock.
- Air compressor in the trunk with a bolt gun.
- Costum iron shields for frontal rods + Front/rear Diffs.
- Costum roll cage.
- Snorkel and all necessary work for waterproofing.
- More lift.

Maybe not all of them to be done soon, depending on my $$$$. Already spent some grands -_-
Trying to register the engine first before fitting it! Hope nothing goes bad I'll update later.
Some pics of progress, would take time:

No engine :)

Nothing could be cooler in that truck! Great choice and can't wait to see the progress!

Thanks, man! I would load the car with lots of necessary and unnecessary goods *_^. Spending lots of hours in garage chatting and making new idea, one of the is making a costum 4 chassis-mounted jacks for each wheel :)

Oooo I like your list of planned mods! I cannot wait to see the progress and pics. :) *envious*

Thanks! It'll take some time but I'll be posting pics of progress ^_^

Updates:

VK56DE engine in most models has a complicated starting sensor found in the factory gear. They're trying to customize my Patrol's gear case to fit the same sensor at the same angle/place where it's designed for. This is probably never been done before for that kind of engine as all ones used have the starter beneath the engine block between 2005-2006 models and only for 4WD version of Nissan Titan + Nissan Armada. Some change the engine system to carburetor which costs a fortune!

In the USA they use Nissan Z32 5-speed gearbox which has similar sensor or convert it to a carburetor for Nissan Z and Silvia.

Hope this works!

Done with chassis cleaning, sand paint, black paint:

Can't wait to see the 2005 VK56DE 5.6L V8 roaring in that black thing! Left to my car you can see my 2 other engines, the 1997 TB42E 4.2L I6 EFI (far right) and the the one I bought and didn't use the 2001 TB45E 4.5L I6 EFI. Both will be sold to refund the project!

Nice project with the engine swap and good progress so far. I'm curious to see how this swap turns out. Did you source the engine from the US as I thought the Armada/Titan were US-market-only?

Thanks :)

Armada is in the GCC market since 2006. But mine is taken from the garage owner's 2005 Nissan Titan, came from Texas. We have many imported cars here as there are no laws against it except if it has a right side steering wheel. Titans are US-market only.

I think the engine is programmed for 87 octane petrol, which is not available here. We only have 91-95 octane so I might tune it a bit and that should give me some extra power combined with the new, bigger headers from UAE for 5.6L swapping in the Nissan Patrol Y60 (88-97 models).

This engine has its starter sensor in the gear, and that's to be impossible to run with other gear. The 2005-2006 models with 4WD option have the starter sensor underneath the engine block, and a used one in UAE can cost between 8,000-10,000$! My friend will try to plant the sensor in my gear's housing in the same place/distance as the factory Titan's. If this works out good it can make some serious business for the garage as we never heard of someone succeeded in using this engine with that complicated starter sensor. These engines are cheaper in the US market like on eBay.

In the US they use Z32's gear which has a sensor too, if I'm not wrong, or swap the system into carburetor which needs some big cash again. The throttle to be changed to wired instead of electronic for more reliability, using new parts from infiniti FX. Theoretically, this should work just fine, but it's quite a challenge!

If it works it'll be working for about 10-12 hours long unstoppable to be sure everything is working good. Personally, I got nothing to lose :).

New HKS radiator + TRD clutch are already ordered. Visuals next :)

Now taking measurements for the VK56DE 5.6L V8 engine and my old gearbox to build a custom adapter + place the engine starter sensor in the right place. A look around the garage with some Patrols around:

Black is mine, silver/green is 97 Y60 Patrol with TB42E 4.2L I6 EFI, the pale golden one is garage's owner (Amer) 92 putting a land cruiser 4.7L V8 with some stroke and pistons in it.

Standard 2002 Patrol Y61 with TB48DE 4.8L I6 engine, Amer's too

My two engines, the left one is TB45E 4.5L I6 EFI with stroke and bigger pistons placing it at 4.8L, never been used by me as I canceled the idea of using it, has about 280+ hp. On the right is my old TB42E 4.2L I6 EFI engine with about 170-180 hp.

A customer with a carby 4.2L I6

Infiniti Q56 (customer's). The white car is a Nissan Patrol 2003 4.8L I6 also Amer's!

Nissan Patrol Pick-up 1992 with a carby 4.2L I6 engine, has a rebuilt trunk with iron and fiber glass to make it rustproof as he's a fisherman.

Shanfari, I can't wait to come back and take a closer look at this thread later tonight ... for some reason, your latest photo posts haven't been showing up for me at work (been going on for quite some time, looks like all the way back to August before I see any that show up ... but there are others missing before then, too); I do get all of them showing when I log in from home, though - it's likely nothing wrong on your end, just the restrictive firewall at my office. This usually happens with photos hosted on a personal site, or a much smaller hosting site than the typical Photo-Bucket or Flickr hosting that a lot of folks use.

Funnily enough, I happened upon one of your other posts in a different thread (maybe the Nissan Photos thread, I don't recall exactly) and as I skimmed over your signature on the way down-thread, the VK56DE note caught my eye ... I had a moment of "Wait a minute, when did he do that ... that's something significant enough I would have noticed, how did I miss it?!?!" ... I had to go back and skim through this thread to see if I *had* missed it; needless to say, it's new enough I hadn't. Phew ...

Awesome news that it's looking feasible and should be working for you soon. Here's to getting all the performance and functionality out of it that you're after ... as I said, can't wait to come back when I can spend a bit more time on checking out the details. Kudos.

I'm really pleased with this reply, dear skibum. Thanks a lot!

I checked back again, and yes, updated one post where all pics are gone:

http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...an-Patrol-1997-Y60-(GQ)?p=1401251#post1401251

The engine is my biggest update as I've been dreaming of this engine since 2010. It's super expensive here (8,000-10,000$) but got it semi-free from my dear cousin Amer, the garage's owner and who's working directly on my car.

I would buy other stuff later so expect more updates, functional and visual goods.

Glad to hear from you again!

All best
