My Camping Trailer Project

So I got a little more done on the trailer...

I cut out holes for the tail lights

Installed the bullet hinges I got from Northern Tool

I also skinned the floor of the slide out area. There will be no weight on the floor (it will be on the drawer slides), so I went with the lightest material I had.

And built the battery tray

Then I used some Duplicolor bedliner on the tailgate and installed the old LED tail lights out of the green 4Runner, and a licence plate light to keep the police happy. The pull handle is from a Ford Van, I still need to get latches to lock and hold the door tight.

NOW you're talking!!

Great progress! Your welds are stupendous!

What's going on with the front area right behind the tongue?.... and while we're doing fifty questions....what's up with the fenders also?

Thanks! The front area will be a box for firewood / trash, it will also serve as a step up to the tent.

More update pictures

I installed a flange on the bottom and top of the rear door, this will let me install some weatherstriping to keep the water and dust out.

I also welded in the lower front bulkhead, the upper bulkhead will be diamond plate.

I also built the fold down table for the camp stove. I still need to make a couple cables that limit how far it drops, and supports the weight of the stove.

I'm also going to build a removeable table that fits in the 2" receiver.

DSCN0261.jpg

I installed a couple latches to keep the table up when it's not being used. The cables will attach to the stud when it's in the downward postion.

I got the tent installed, it's there forever (whether it likes it or not)!

I still need to finish the flange that goes all the way around the tent. Thats where the snaps will be installed for the cover.

I also installed the shore plug and battery charger

I got the fuel tank and upper diamond plate platform installed today. I also tarped the tent to keep the UV rays and water from getting to it, until I can get a cover made.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, I used my phone and the lights in the shop mess with it.

love the color of the runner!

a suggestion. instead of the receiver table, install a sliding table/chopping block in the top of the cargo area. this way it is out of the way, and accessible anytime. no stowing away, no unloading to use it. could be fancy on sliders, or easy in angle slides. could even make it a sliding frame with reliefs to use recessed cutting boards as the top, so you can pull them and wash easily.

i like the way it is turning out. would love to see it some time. if you can make it, im hosting a trip to holy cross weekend of aug 19,20,21.

Thanks for the table suggestions, that's a good idea. I'll have to see how everything comes together.

I love Holy Cross, if the new 4Runner is built in time I might stop by. The new 4Runner will be on 35's, bumpers, sliders, lockers, etc.
