Not a bad deal on the storage...lol. Where you hauling this baby off to? I see you are from "Northern Canada", this will be right at home "up there". Enjoy it!

I live in Whitehorse Yukon. And cannot wait to get this up here so that I can spend the rest of the summer camping/exploring.

Kool stuff indeed. Some pretty wide open spaces up there, I need to get my butt up north one day. I always seem to go south or head east in BC, rarely north?

Well made it to Seattle alright. Tows with no issues at all. Just need to be careful about parking. It doesn't back up worth a dam (or maybe that's the driver...) Also picked up my matching wheels (well 16s instead of 17s but I don't think any one will notice). Oh and the worn stock tires are louder than my JK tires on the highway!! I'm almost afraid to find out what the new stock tires would be like (those are in the trailer).

Tent sets up very quickly. However... damn this mattress blows. I'm glad the PO mentioned that... but damn... I didn't think it would be this bad. The tent is a Tepui Kukenam, and apparently has a 2.5" mattress... Any suggestions? I'll try to re-arrange things for tomorrow night...

Here's a picture of it with the JK just before setting out for Seattle from Van.

Glad you're enjoying it! And I really dig how the trailer paint is a reverse scheme of your Jeep, looks great!

And yes, I did tell you so... That mattress isn't great at all but once you add a Thermarest (I prefer underneath) it becomes super comfy and gets rid of all the typical condensation.

And a big thanks for the great Yukon beer! :)

Cheers

Well am back in Van for several days - and earlier than I wanted to be (see my jeep thread for more details). But the trailer has been great!! Tows great (had it up to 75/80 with no issues). Tent sets up very fast, and I seem to have found an acceptable solution to the mattress for now - I'll be looking for a Thermarest when I'm back in Whitehorse. I was skeptical of being able to keep the pillows as well as the bedding in the tent while packed... but it works quite well - I shouldn't have doubted Abitibi when he told me it would all fit. Sets up and packs up fairly fast - even in the pooring rain. So a new tent (I've always liked the Autohome Maggiolina) isn't on the radar any time soon - not that I can afford it right now anyway.

And shockingly it backs up much better now... It must be because I've broken it in :)

Plan now is to leave Vancouver on Thursday or Friday (depends on when Dodge is done working on the tranny), then head to Lillooet (depending on time, maybe only for lunch) and up to Quesnel for my cousins wedding on Saturday. Then make my way home, spending a night or two (maybe more - depending on the weather) at Liard Hot Springs.

But my thoughts after using it for the last 5 nights... I need some sort of awning, or something to mount a tarp over the tent and over the edges. I also need some sort of kitchen setup - ideally one protected from the rain without having to use tarps. I don't mind the front hinge... but am only using the back half of the trailer for my camping stuff... front half has 2 new full m101 wheels and tires (anyone in/around Vancouver wants these, make an offer and they're yours), as well as my 3 16" Moab wheels. I'd hate to think about trying to access something big right at the front of the trailer... I wouldn't be able to get it out. Ammo cans on the tongue will need to go... and will likely be gone before I head north. They rattle a lot, and are in the way of my tail gate (usually).

I've also never really used the tailgate. Not sure if that's because of how I packed things or what. But would love to have a kitchen setup off the rear (or something coming out off the front). I just don't like the idea of my tent ladder on one side of the trailer, and my kitchen setup on the other side of the ladder. Sometimes depending on where you park (or are camping) that's not ideal. So I'll have to give this some more thought - however to be honest I'll likely be camping in camp grounds this summer.

I only took a couple pictures, but they're on my camera so will post them later.

My steel lid I can easily pick up, aside from it being very awkward. I know mine is under 100lbs. Probably closer to 70-80. The trailer on the other hand has gotten HEAVY and I have not done a whole lot too it. Most of it is all the weight of the electrical in the nose box.

Your trailer looks good, they only improve as you use them and make changes.

Thanks. Yeah, I just need to use it more to really get a handle on what I think I want to change, as there's pluses and minues to everything.

A teaser just because I can... :) Nothing major... but baby steps right?

So since picking up some 16" MOABs (my JK has 17s), I've been looking for some tires... and to be honest I wasn't willing to spend much money on them. Ideally I wanted some used MTs or something aggressive that would go well with the JK. Well finally found some tonight - well kinda. They're good tires, just not aggressive looking at all but for $100 they'll work. A pair of Nokian Vatiiva 265/75/16s (~31.5"). They have ~70% tread and are 10 ply. Hopefully that's not too tall (about 2" bigger than what's on there now).

But will get them mounted and balanced tomorrow and on tomorrow night so that I have time to put 100km on them (will just go for a drive) so that I can then pull the tires and re-torque the spacers/adapters before my trip this weekend.

Edit.
Well good news and bad news... I never measured the wheels when I bought them, and took them for the guys word that they came off a sport and were 16s. Well they're not. They're 17s. Which I guess is both good and bad. Good in that they match my JK and I can run the same tire (at least once I'm not running the ones I'm running now). But bad in the sense that the tires I bought last night won't work.

Edit #2.
Back on track. Found some Wranglers for $150. A little worn, but will be fine for the trailer for the next couple years. These should also look great with the more aggressive tread. Will have some pic's up tonight.

Now am frustrated. Got the tires all mounted up, however the aftermarket hubs wont work with the stock JK MOABs. I either have to find different hubs (ones that don't stick out as far, or that the part that does stick out is skinnier), or have the centers of the wheels drilled out.

Unfortunately this means my plans to have matching wheels on anytime soon won't be happening. :( And it means spending more money to get these wheels working. Am close to $500 now, and still can't run them. As I have a 3rd wheel, I'll try drilling the center out first on one of them (or perhaps call a place tomorrow morning to see if someone else can do it).

But if I go down the road of a new hub... what do I look/ask for? As far as I and the previous owner know, it's the stock M101 CND2 axle.

Spent $50 on a drill bit and the special piece to attach it to the drill... and drilled out the centers. One worked really well, and I chipped part of the paint/finish right around the center on the other. Might have to pull it and spray some clearcoat onto it just so it doesn't peel easily. I could also get a 3rd tire, and drill out the center on the other wheel I have. Put 100km onto it, to work in the spacers. Will pull the tires tomorrow to tighten those... but should be good for my weekend in Atlin now!

How much tire pressure should I be running? Am at 21 lbs in the trailer.

Ran it over the scale on my drive tonight... 1250 lbs loaded (well mostly - no/little water). But all my camping gear, a spare tire and my tools and a bunch of fire wood.

Am very happy with how it's looking now. Only downside is it sits slightly nose down when level. Not too bad - and I could easily sleep like that... but I notice it. And I still think it needs to get painted silver. :)

Oh, and the pictures were taken at 11pm. Sun had just gone behind the mountains 10 minutes earlier. God I love the north.
