My Disco2 Build

OCD moment. This rust has been bothering me since I bought this disco. Finally got out the grinder and cleaned up both sides of the rear frame.

Before. UGLY! I hate rust.

Stripped the rust off with a wire wheel on my grinder.

Some Hammered Paint over rust converter paint that becomes a primer or something. I feel so much better inside.

Its crazy how that little bit of low end helps drivability and it also improve gas mileage

Very true. My buddy has a 4.0 p38 and I have the 4.6 and his truck feels so sluggish compared to mine. On the freeway up hills, its no contest, I just pull away like he is standing still. The 33inch tires really hurt the 4.0 and he is looking to re-gear where I don't feel I have to. But its a nice excuse to throw in a truetrac or other new diff!

Any rust can hurt you in the end. Nice cleanup.

I have a fair amount of oil leaking on the driveway and the garage floor. Decided it was time to do something about it. So I ordered a new front main seal, valve cover gaskets and an oil pan gasket. Not knowing exactly where it was coming from.

So I decided to start on the top side. I'm still waiting on the Oil Pan gasket. The seller on Amazon must have shipped it by some dude walking from Texas to Utah. Its been 10 days since I ordered it. That and lying on the ground in a pool of oil didn't sound like fun last night.

I think I found my leak!

Top side is a damn mess. I don't know how many times I've pressure washed it.

The valve covers had about an inch of oil on them. I ran down to the local car wash and washed them off.

Then started painting them.

I have had the flu for a few days now. So I haven't gotten much done. I drugged myself up tonight and finished a few things.

I got the top end back together.

I bought some new rear shocks finally. I thought I'd give these a try. They get pretty good reviews, they are supposed to be as good as Old Man Emu shocks for half the cost. So we shall see how they do. Anything has to be better then the stock shocks. I bounce around like a pogo stick if I go over a large bump.

I got the Shocks from Lucky8. I've only driven on the around town today for about 10 miles. But!, I can already tell they are pretty nice. My back end does not pogo over all the big bumps now. I can actually go over a driveway ramp without the rear going airborn and bouncing around. much improved! Thanks. Great deal too. $115 shipped.

Good news on the shocks, seems all who've installed same are reporting same.

My OCD has got me replacing a leak on the front cover at the moment. Would have been a 4 hour job if I didnt find a lot of slack in the timing chain.

The only thing about the shocks you'll have to worry about is longevity, otherwise they ride pretty well.

Top end looks ridiculously clean!!

Got a bunch of "new" parts for the Disco at the junkyard yesterday. $53 for all of this. It'll be nice to have working mirrors.
