My DIY solution to the UEV 440

Hey i saw that you used pop rivets for the trailer walls on the sheet metal. How was your experience using them? How did you manage to water proof it? and is it possible to rivet a 16 gauge aluminum sheet to a 16 gauge steel flange or is that too thick to use pop rivets on? i have no experience using those guns but i thought it would make my job much easier to do if i were to use his method vs multiple bolts lock washers and bolts lol probably a heck of a lot cheaper too!

trying to make the trailer as light as possible while still having somewhat of a heavy duty wall. So i wanted to begin building the walls and doors to my trailer But seems like rivets are he only way im going o be able to keep them together.

Heya, thanks for the interest in the trailer. What is it you are doing with the 16ga? You could use rivets with a 1/2 shank depth and 1/8 thickness but for that application i would use steel rivets. A word of warning, unless you are popeye get yourself a good rivet gun, the kind with the long handles! Your forarms will thank you! If the area you will be using rivets has a tendency to move then use a different fastener (self tapers Tec screws) etc. rivets dont do so well in high stress areas but are perfect for holding flat pieces to a wall stud. As for water proofing, the entite trailer has foam board inbetween the frame studs and then taped along each seam. Then i used silicon along each stud and overlapped the sheet metal about 2" with silicon Inbetween. Over that i used monster liner which created a tough coating that is waterproof. Hope thst helps ya out. Let me know if i can help or if u have more questions.

Yep, i can envision what you are doing and it should work fine. I remember your build, been following it. Nice work! If i build another trailer im gonna look into using a Jeep frame so all the brackets are there and use factory arms, springs etc.

Welp, it seems that life has gotten in the way of progress. It appears i might have to put the 440 up for sale. If i do end up selling it i will let it go for what i have in it material wise. Ugh.

Woohoo! Happy day! I don't have to sell the trailer after all. Thank you to all those who wrote with questions and to the ones who were seriously considering buying it. Now I will actually get to use it this ELK season..lol!
