My Goldilocks Camper - Kimberley Kamper

Makes perfect sense..

I think it has to do with opening away from traffic if you're pull off to the side of the road.

Not that it really matters for us -- we always find a turnoff/field to stop in. :)

It rocks having a hot lunch in a few minutes -- driving in the middle of nowhere!! :wings:

Guess if your thinking about stopping on the road to open it makes sense. Don't think I would pull over and fire up the kitchen sitting on the hghway. I have pulled over to places it doesnt matter. . . . . . But then is Australia, some highways are deserted for hours and not an issue

This is a great Kamper and I used it a lot in 2010 and 2011. Didnt use it once in 2012. The one long camping trip I went on was more rugged expedition and I used my RTT. My older daughter sold her truck, the younger one away at school and its just me. Right now I plan on using it at Cruise Moab, where I will be in a campground for the event and posssibly Ouray another campground. Seems like a waste of a great camper taking up space in my garage. I'm not one for lone wolf trips. My wifes idea of camping is a Hilton

On one hand I am jonseing for the Conquest Commander or UEV-490 on the other hand, wondering if it would sit in the garage as well

I need to get out and use this

sigh . . . . just venting :(

thanks for the link from the other for sale thread.

How does the heater work for you? Do you think it has enough output to heat a tent roughly double the size of the kimberly - I'm guessing that's where my trak shak falls.

Just discovered this thread. Very nice to read about my old KKamper and the mods you've made to improve it. Quality and workmanship on those earlier models was much higher than it is now. Ask me how I know.

In response to an earlier message in this thread, the guy I purchased it from in 2002 was an Aussie who had imported six of them. He was located in Detroit, MI, which is where I took delivery.

Looking at this thread I should update about the xtra wing I added. It's in another thread about the Oz tents, but I will post up here for completeness

I really liked the expandability of this Kamper and it has been great over the last three years with no issues.

Now that my daughters are older and they have significant others, some expandability with privacy was something I wanted to add. I also wanted a setup I could use on its own in addition to or in place of the Roof Top Tent

After a lot of research I settled on an RV4. I had the following Criteria
•Something that would fit well with my Kimberley under the canopy
•Needed to fit two large cots with room to move around
•Needed to be able to stand in it
•Need to be a quick setup
•Canvas for long life and warmth
•Expandability on it's own

So The RV4 on its own can be expanded with side panels and even connect two for a large indoor room

You can see the setup and tear down in the link

You can use the Oztent by itself for the quick setup or add the side walls and front panel which adds 5-10 minutes to the setup

You can even further expand on it and connect a 2nd Oztent of any size to the setup and have a large multi room setup. I do like the options

So I brought it to Ouray so Sarah and her boyfriend could stay in the Oztent while I had plenty of room in the Kamper. I can fit 4 in the Kamper, but it becomes tight

The Oztent fit well right up under my canopy. I may add a Velcro strip later on to better seal it. It did rain, but no issues arose from the rain

The biggest issue people have with these Oztents is they are long and many have to put them on the roof rack. I was able to easily fit it inside my 100 series

It did take less than 30 seconds to setup and tear down, with maybe another minute to stake it in the back

I like the way Australians build things to last in the outback for months at a time.

I did also get the side panels so I could use this by itself or loan it to Sarah or Rachel to use

I also bought new tires including the spare. Was a bit nervous with the 11 year old tread. Bought 3 BFG AT KO tires.

Still not using it as much as I want to with life and work, but being in the garage, I don't worry about it aging

Hard to believe it's been 5 years. I don't use it as much as I would like, but it's always ready when I need it. I am glad I can keep it in the garage so I don't need to worry about wear due to weather. Of course these are built so tough, sitting outside wouldn't matter

Used it this past week in Moab right next to a unit 4 serial numbers apart from mine. Dan and I were talking about how fortunate we are to have these and we both intend on keeping them a long long time
