All of the Liberty (Legacy) in Australia have the stepped roof design. Only the US got the flat roof.
Maybe I should have clarified I did pay for a specialist to assemble this all for me, hence the lack of pictures! The gearbox has had 2 major stages, but the basics:
The first incarnation of the gearbox:
Gen 1 Liberty dual range casing
EA82 1.59 low range gears.
Leone RX/II vacuum locking center diff. From the JDM EA82 cars that had full time 4WD, so I had to get this from an imported gearbox. Although apparently the signle range vacuum locking centre works too.
This required the center diff housing from the EA82 to bolt onto the EJ gearbox casing, which changed the length of the gearbox and that's why the modified linkages driveshaft etc.
I'm in Australia so this was all relatively easy to source.
After about 18months I wore out the locking center and was a bit annoyed by the modified parts and would have preferred standard EJ linkages etc etc. I learnt afterwards that I should have had it locked offroad at all times and driven it carefully in the wet. The H6 was able to over power the 4WD system and spin the centre diff gears in their housing and chew it out.
So the current, second stage of the gearbox:
Same Gen 1 casing with a Gen 2 Liberty gearset.
EA82 1.59 low range gears.
Version 5 STi RA 5MT DCCD differential, which I'm running with a DCCDPro controller.
Cusco RS type 1 way front LSD.
The EA low range gears into an EJ box has been documented a few times. The DCCD center diff just bolts onto the back of a dual range gearbox, but it does need the matching shaft (it has an extra bearing) and the cover plate with the little hole for the wires.
It's a pretty awesome gearbox, build one if you can.
