Some of those barns look like they might have bear proof armoring at ground level.

Awhile back I made a post here about a few options that I was considering as I move forward through life. One of those options was to settle down, get off the road, buy myself a piece of land and build a small cabin. I've been pursuing that dream while parked here in Montana but as of this day I've yet to find that piece of land. Now you'd think that it would be a fairly easy task to find that piece of land in a state that comprises 147,040 square miles but that has not been the case. I have found a log home builder that I would work with.....he has 40 years of experience building cabins in Montana.....and here's a sampling of his work and what I have in my mind further down the road.....someday.....

JD.....that's actually one of the many areas that I'm currently searching. I'm not familiar with concrete logs ? Sounds expensive.....
I mentioned in an earlier post that I was staying extremely busy during my layover so I thought I'd share with readers some of the things that I'm up to. Of course I'm working on my friends place while she deals with the curse of cancer.....she is facing the battle of her life.....more on that later. Not far from the property where I've parked the camper lives an old man and his handicapped wife.....
Now this particular old man just loves collecting stuff as you see in the first photo (and the 9 that follow).....I think he's a hoarder for sure.....
Well it seems as though most people around here just kind of laugh at the old man but I decided to help out. My first move was to start mowing his grass. It never gets mowed but just getting that done has made a difference.....
I've offered to haul metal to the recycle yard and trash to the landfill.....post up cars, motorcycles, bicycles (there's well over 100 throughout the property), etc. on Ebay or Craigslist. I've learned first hand that it's not easy for a hoarder to part with his stuff.....he likes to say "I'm working on it".....
I've begun to haul some things further off the roadway.....at least it's not quite so unsightly. He appreciates my help.....we are now friends and he trusts my intentions.....
I've found some cool stuff as I clean up the property.....I'll post some more pictures next time.....life on the road sure can be interesting.....

My Grandfather is a hoarder who puts this guy to shame. In a small Nebraska town, he has houses filled to the ceiling with stuff, barns full of stuff and fields full of stuff. No matter how many times I ask, he won’t part with any of the cars. It’s amazing what kind of items from the past get “collected” and I look forward to seeing what you’ve found.

What would it mean...if I'm actually looking at his yard and seeing if there is anything I need. Okay, hoarder issues myself...lol

Brian.....no doubt there's things that you need on that property. Some of the stuff he's collected for over 40 years is pretty damn cool.....personally, I plan to ask him if I can have a few old Montana license plates that I've found lying around.....
Don.....the travels have been good but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm getting tired of it. I guess we're all different, and for me, after nearly two years, I'm ready to settle down again.....but today I'm still homeless.....and still living in a truck camper.....
Dougnuts.....a neighbor tells me that their house fits the exact description of your grandfather's house. I've not been in their house but here's a sampling of one of two mobile homes that are parked on the property.....
And here's the best thing that I've found so far.....

Traveling full time is only fun and glamorous for so long. At some point it becomes that dreaded "Job" just like most other folks have. That's when it's time for a change!
Everybody needs a break from their daily routine no matter what that "routine" is. Having traveled for 20+ years a long time ago in a Corporate capacity I can say constantly traveling does get old fast. In today's world it must be down right miserable.
On the flip side I will say that I have been "working" at 16+ years of unemployment and have not got tired of that "routine"!

Vintageracer.....yes, I agree with you completely (almost). I don't understand how people live this lifestyle year after year without a second thought. While I'd never go so far as to say that I am or have been "miserable", I would say that I long for a home and a piece of land. That being said, I am thankful for what I do have.....so many people would love to be in this position.....

I'm kind of late to the party, but I'm sure enjoying reading back through your trip. I spend time on several different forums and have started trying to keep up with a few people on Instagram too, so I sometimes forget where I was. At any rate, I think I started reading your thread sometime back, but lost my place and stumbled across it again the other day. I've started reading from most recent, backwards. I just completed page 126 and you were leaving Koosharem Reservoir. You mentioned looking for sheds. have you ever heard of people training dogs for this?
I used to be a much more avid hunter and I have never found a shed when I set out to do so. I always just happen across them. I had a Jack Russell that I trained to trail wounded game and thought about trying to teach her to find sheds, but never did. I bought my first Jeep just two years ago and the week I turned 50 I struck out from Fort Worth to Vegas. My teen daughter was playing in a soccer tournament out there so I opted to drive and camp instead of fly and stay on the strip.
I camped at the Valley of Fire State Park and would run into town for her games and explore the rest of the time. I think that ignited the flame to start thinking more about eventually doing something along the lines that you have.
I got a Golden a little over a year ago and she loves riding in the Jeep just about as much as I do, so seeing your dogs in pictures along the way just makes following your journey that much more enjoyable!
Gotta get back to work, for now <<sigh>> keep keepin' on!
