My Journey

Wow! Didn't realize I was behind. The cabin looks amazing. I figured you would hit the road. Seeing the pictures of Yellowstone was awesome. Having just spent 4 days driving all over, to each gate and we saw Old Faithful. We have a knack of showing up 10 minutes before it erupts, and even getting a seat. The dogs looked ready to go. Thanks for posting the moose pictures. I can't believe we didn't see one moose over 4 days. Plenty of bison, elk, pronghorn, and a black wolf with rabbit I'm it's mouth. Safe travels. JD

Ace.....thanks.....that was a lucky encounter for sure.....

Arjan.....of course.....I enjoy posting.....

JD.....thanks.....when I passed by the benches at Old Faithful I'd guess there were maybe twenty people seated.....it was great.....

Now that particular morning happened to be October 31st which just happened to be the last day that Teton Park Road & the visitors center were open for the 2021 season. We had no plans to leave that day, especially with the overcast skies. I'm not sure what possessed me to leave that morning at 10:00 a.m. but indeed we did leave. We just drove south along Highway 191, descended a bit, and then our world changed almost immediately.....

The skies above Jackson Lake were nearly void of clouds.....and the Teton mountain range was draped in thin layers of white clouds.....it was just the beginning of a dream day at Grand Teton National Park.....

As I've stated several times in the past, my goal here on XP is not to load more than twenty photos per day.....on a day like this at a place like this.....well, damn that sure is a difficult task.....

Great pictures Jerry, I'm going to snag one for my new screen saver. How do the dogs react to the moose? My dogs go nuts when they see a cow.

Jerry,,,,,, Dam, I just noticed your Lic.-Plate, -[ ICEAXE ]- I hadn't noticed that before,,,,, and the reason for my taking Note, see attached, he gave this to me yrs ago, it was miss-placed for awhile, found it when I was coming to Alaska in 2002, it's here with me now, I had it on a Hike with me this spring up in the Talkeetna's, and on returning to the Trail-Head, an Elderly Man approached, and said can I see your walking-stick, I said sure, but its alittle more than a walking stick, and he replied "Yea" I know, I had one in Italy,,,,, and yea, I had to ask him how old he was,,,, he said he was 17 at the time, and that I could do the Math..... his 94th Birthday was coming up......

That is amazing. I'll stash that in my top 10 greatest story's of the year.
Thank you.

Riversdad.....Tanner is much like your dogs and Trapper is somewhat but her real thing is birds. She literally will stop in her tracks to watch a flock of geese fly over. At the cabin property which was fenced and where she ran free, she would follow them to the fence line and watch them until they disappeared into the sky.....

Zim.....I agree with that statement.....i absolutely love old climbing gear.....he's a lucky guy.....

That day passed away much too fast for me and before we knew it, it was nearly closing time. We pulled into the visitors center with less than an hour to wander around.....

20211031_140858_copy_1600x2844.jpg

As best that I can recall of that visit, I was the only tourist inside (and if not it was one or two more at most). I wandered around and came across the climbing exhibit.....

20211031_141014_copy_1600x2844.jpg

I took photos of nearly the entire exhibit just to share here. My guess is that someone reading this might not ever have the opportunity to visit, yet still has the curiosity.....

The Tetons... became one of my favorite places.

Jerry, as you know I spent a week there last year. But I was not able to visit the visitors center because I didn't find the time to do it. So thanks for posting all the pics. Greatly appreciated. Also thanks for the pics of the Tetons, brought back a lot of memories. Too bad you couldn't hit some of the trails with Tanner and Trapper.

I love the Tetons. My screen saver has the historic barn with the Tetons in the background, taken along Mormons Row. I was so glad we decided to head South after Old Faithful and spend a little time in the Tetons. However, with that said, the day we were there may have been the last day of Gabby Petito's life. We drove right by the road where they were camping and almost drove up that road to check out the camping. Very eerie feeling. Guess I need to wipe that one away. Snow capped mountains are the best and the Tetons just add to the magic.

Arjan.....just a guy in a truck camper traveling with his best friends.....but thanks.....

Broshaker.....thanks.....just a real nice post that's much appreciated.....

ITTOG.....the memories.....it was the same for me that day.....I too revisited my past.....thanks.....

pkripper.....thank you & yea the journey continues.....it's definitely not a weekend trip nor a one week vacation.....I think this has the makings of maybe a 5 month trip possibly ? Base Camp.....I doubt it will go up for sale.....I'm getting tired.....

JD.....that's a classic scene that I'll bet is on many a computer screen.....

The clouds continued to roll in from the west that evening, engulfed the Tetons, and as the sun set the rains began to fall once again.....

20211031_182517_copy_1600x442.jpg

20211031_182508_copy_1600x900.jpg

Again that night I heard the mix of rain & sleet on the campers roof.....there's something about that sound that's nearly therapeutic and every night now I'm finding myself sleeping 9 hours.....and I absolute love that.....

20211031_182532_copy_1600x900.jpg

The morning brought clearing skies.....

20211101_083811_copy_1600x900.jpg

.....so we took advantage of those clearing skies and went for a morning hike.....

20211031_182640_copy_1600x2844.jpg

Inclement weather can be such a drag when you want to get out and play.....especially with two Golden Retrievers. But on the other hand, inclement weather provides one the opportunity to see amazing cloud formations which are constantly changing the landscape.....

20211101_083514_copy_1600x900.jpg

20211101_083622_copy_1600x900.jpg

.....which then results in non-stop picture taking.....

20211101_083601_copy_1600x900.jpg

20211101_083637_copy_1600x2844.jpg

It seemed as though this day had the potential to be yet one more great weather day.....

20211101_090111_copy_1600x900.jpg

20211101_083649_copy_1600x2844.jpg

Now I'm reluctant here to whine too much about inclement weather.....the western states are in dire need of rain. So I try my best to rejoice in it and find ways to enjoy ourselves in spite of the cold and the damp.....

20211101_090100_copy_1600x900.jpg

20211101_083643_copy_1600x2844.jpg

We returned to the camper as more dark clouds arrived.....we decided to chew on it for a bit and figure out what to do.....

20211102_085727_copy_1600x900.jpg

I fired up a burner and made another hot mug of coffee.....we thought real hard that morning.....damn near made ourselves cross eyed.....

20211102_085834_copy_1600x2844.jpg

We chewed & thought so damn hard.....well, we had to take a morning nap.....

20211102_092141_copy_1600x900.jpg

Then we finally awoke, decided to head into town.....this was our last view of the Tetons.....

20211101_083543_copy_1600x566.jpg

I had friends to see here.....

20211101_143436_copy_1600x900.jpg

.....and of course we had to visit this shop.....and then we decided it was time to push further south.....

Jerry,,,,, Dam, & Dam again,,,,,,, that is one Hell-of-a Photo Collage on Mountaineering and Climbing Gear that I ever seen, GOOD on you, that's for sure,,,, and yes, that looked like an AMES, less the leather lanyard strap,,,,, the Older Gentleman in my 1st Post, actually made a comment on that exact same thing,,,,,, that the leather lanyard was still in-tack, and now I'm remembering that my Uncle had that leather lanyard strap wrapped in a Goat-skin Hide, with some type of conditioning, that was somewhat yellow in color as I remember, anyway, Murphy just said to say hello, to you and your 4-Legged Compadre's,,,,,,,
