My New Overland Vehicle: Just another 100 series LX470 Build

I've always been a fan of this site due to what it represents: exploration, freedom, and machinery. I've owned many cars and motorcycles, but never any trucks. I enjoy my free time, which seems hard to find most weeks, to work on my vehicles so that they're in tip top shape . Most of the time they don't need anything, but I have OCD and it gives me a reason to tinker :)

I've been a fan of Land Cruisers since being a kid (one of many vehicles I respect due to its engineering and design purpose). As of recent I felt it was time to add one to my collection. The FJ60/62 is near and dear to my heart, but the 100 series has come to grow on me during the last decade. I like the LX body style as I feel it looks more relevant now even though the design is well over a decade old. I've been searching for quite some time for a 1 owner California vehicle with impeccable maintenance. A few weeks ago, my chasing came to an end when I found my LX. It had roughly 105k miles and the original owners were premature on all the scheduled maintenance. I have moderate plans for this vehicle, but mainly it's going to serve as a adventure / overland vehicle with occasional tow duties. I have a Fox body coupe that I track occasionally in Northern CA and the LX is going to fill that role just fine.

I've already started working down the list of items I have in store for the LX. I picked up some 18" Tundra wheels and had West Coast Powder Coating in South San Francisco handle the powder coating (AJ did an amazing job). The goal was to bring the rugged steel wheel look to the car BUT do something other than the everyday black steel wheel look. After 15 mins of color comparing at the shop, I found a metallic gray that was close enough to the bottom grey color paint of the truck. Rims are wrapped in 285/65/18 BFG T/A KO2s. I can't be any happier with the look! Tomorrow I will be removing the running boards and lining the interior with WeatherTech mats front and back.

Within the remainder of the month I'll be ordering a Gobi Stealth Rack and front and rear bumpers, so stay tuned as I update this thread! I'm looking forward to sharing my adventure stories within this community. :safari-rig::Astrologist:

Love the bumpers! I was looking at a ARB Safari front bumper without the front bar. As for the rear, I was looking at a Slee but the price is a little high. Where in N. CA are you about?

No Running Boards Here!

Finally got around of posting pics of it with no running boards. It looks so much better with no running boards. Pretty easy design to gain access and remove.

Great looking LX470! Low miles for that year. I like the tire/wheel upgrade!

With the side steps gone, what sliders are you planning on running?

You've got some great choices for the 100 but I think Benc is making the best ones for the $$$. I love the LX the color combo isn't as common as others and I dig it. The wheels look nice, did you want steeliness for the size, material, look? Just wondering as the factory wheels looked great too.
