My next project, E350 Ambulance???

I often end up laughing at myself, must be why I still feel so young! Yes, nutz but there's a bit of clarity in my madness!
The electrical looks scary but it's actually pretty cool as they have everything labeled and have a big schematic map that comes with it. So from what I can tell it should actually be easier than what I've owned before...but I'll let you know once I start taking it all apart! I'm picking it up this Friday. And no, my wife doesn't know.. I'll let her know what I did once the first one is sold :sombrero:

Time to get my umbrella ;)

Cheers,
Mr. D

Had a bit of free time today to spend on ambo#1, finding a small leak that was obviously neglected by the previous owner and fixing the resulting surface rust on the front floor. Came out very nice!

Took the old rubber matting out, scraped and discarded the old sound dampener that had seen better and drier days but not before using it as a template for the closed cell foam mat that I'm using instead. I finished the cleaning with some 80 grit sanding so the contact cement wouldn't argue with me... The news paper in between the two pieces is the buffer that prevents the two surfaces glueing to each others until they are where you want them to be. Contact glue doesn't forgive much! (The foam is from HD and doesn't absorb water)

I used a wire wheel on the grinder to clean the floor of the surface rust or loose paint, cleaned it real good and gave it a generous coat of Por-15. Before re-installing the rubber mat I'll put a layer of FatMax on the floor to help with that loud 7.3

As for the leak, it came from the roof. Took me long enough to find it as it was very small but once i finally found it I gave the entire roof a good clean up and used a high quality marine sealer to cover all the joints. We've had some powerful rain since and I'm happy it's now bone dry inside:)

Cheers
Mr. D

While you have the dog house off check the up pipes.

Run your fingers around the join in the up pipes and see if there is any soot. If there is soak the crap out of the bolts/nuts with PB Blast or some other penetrating oil and then replace the gaskets. They are about $6 for genuine or $3 for the chev ones that fit.

Thanks for the tip, no soot though... all good!

I don't think I've ever been so slow to get started on a project! Instead of finishing Ambo1 I decided to go out with a friend and take my two young boys camping for a week down the Washington Peninsula, no regrets as it's a gorgeous area!

Then I went with friends for a weekend north of Whistler to hit some Hot springs, cozy!

But I saved some time for Ambo1, managed to finish the floor, re-install the rubberized flooring, seats, fix a small leak and installed a new serpentine belt. I'll probably rebuild the brakes, mount new tires and she'll be ready to go for sale. Then and only then ambo2 get started! :)

I might have to consider a larger trailer... Looks tiny now!

Can't decide on which front grill to keep...

The stock one is tempting but the white one is molded for the horns which would be fun to have if I could re-activate them (not the siren, just that loud horn) :) and once painted black would probably blend in...

That black one (kinda different isnt it!) has the same stock grill as Ambo1 while the white one has the horns (Ambo2). Thoughts?

Stock one. I think it looks better, and these things have enough problems with heat without blocking half the grille
