My slow going utility trailer build

Hey guys, names dave and I'm new to the forum. I just picked up the 4x6 trailer on Friday and have already done a few things to it. I first started with the axle flip and mounted my buddies 31x10.50/r15's on the factory wheels. The bolt pattern is 5x4.5 so I am going to order some crager soft 8's soon. Then I cut off the factory fenders and sanded it down and put a coat of flat black on. I made it too thin so I'm going to sand it back down and paint it gloss black to match my jeep. Here are some pics of where I started and where I'm at now.

I like it! Go with square fenders that are larger to clear the wheels.
Matching rims and tires too. Get some gloss on the black and It will be good to go.
Mytarps.com for a machine cover tarp in black " You can get black canvas to match the jeep soft top.

Does the axle have disc brakes?
Odd looking hubs.
Keep the pictures posted.

Thanks for the idea on the top. I'm going Wednesday to tractor supply and see what kind of selection they have on square fenders. if they dont have what im looking for there then ill just order online. The hubs have rotors on them but have not been used in a VERY long time as they are rusty and pitted. There is also a cut around the hub from a plasma cutter where it looks like something important was cut off. Not really sure what kind of axle these are either.

Tomorrow when I get off work I'm going to try and finish the outside with the exception of the fenders then this weekend I plan to caulk the whole inside then roll bed line the bed. After that I have to find a setup so I can put a pintle hitch on. I was thinking I'm just going to cut off the normal hitch on the tongue and bolt on a 2" receiver and mount the pintle hitch that way.

Do your homework when rebuilding the tongue.
How the tailgate opens?
Do you want a tongue box or firewood rack?
Does it need lengthened?
Keep it strong and not much flex.

Easier to do it once and have it work for the rest of it's life.

Keep us posted.

The tail gate opens by these two T handle screws that screw into the side and it just drops down. I'm not really sure how I need the tongue. Is there a certain length a tongue needs to be? I could run a piece of square 2" tuning the length of the trailer and extend it past where the tongue sits now and also use that as a receiver? I'm still new to this so I need to keep researching.

I would run a tube from the coupler to under the tub for added strength.
Use a piece of square tubing that you can slip a 2" lunette or tube with a coupler into.

Sorry I was talking about the Jeep's tailgate. Make sure you can open it with the trailer hitched.

Yea that was my plan. I need to look underneath it to see how I can do that. And the jeeps tail gae opens from the left. The hinges are on the right.

Taking the trailer to work tomorrow so I can hurculiner the inside. I definitely need to lengthen the tongue because its just about impossible to back it up.

Also agreed. If I ever start working on my own rusty metal box I have got to stretch the tongue out some more. Yours is lookin' really nice with your Jeep. Keep up the good work!

You've got to be able to access whatever you might have in the storage of the back of your tow rig. So, however you choose to redesign it, keep that in mind.
