"if anyone reads this thread they would be nuts to buy a Phoenix."
As Runt , I own a Phoenix for 2 years and very happy with his strength , tightness and its quality made to measure .
But this, I said in a previous post .
We consider a second camp with Phoenix on a new PU.
Unfortunately , due to personal problems , the trip to the states and the order will be canceled this year.
This thread is an exchange of a few people who voluntarily trigger suspission ,In order to denigrate a competitor manufacturer.
Ok ,
I'm a nuts and a nuts future ...
You are very very heavy ... and disrespectful to future buyers ..
It is easy to dismiss a builder on a Forum readable by all.And there is no moderation on this thread.
The Phoenix Campers owners are treated of nuts and prospective buyers are afraid to buy crap....
This is the message you want to convey?
I Followed with interest a new thread."New review new build with Phoenix Pop up"
This innovative project of flatbed was technically very interesting .I live in France, where there are many achievements, for several years.I wanted to show the French making(of old continent) in order to exchange ideas.
Very Quickly , a spirit of suspission appeared in many answers .
Before we can judge the progress of the work , the future owner has been suspected and manufacturer denigrated.
Terra Ops may be preferred to delate his thread ,due to negative judgements.
I hope that he will make a new thread to monitor its project.
This is very unfortunate for the spirit of sharing a forum,
Wasp I hear what you are saying and I appreciate your point of view. Most importantly I am pleased that you appear to be happy with your Phoenix purchase. I remember reading the post on this forum about your camper and the owners traveling to France to deliver it to you (we sooo want the Hilux here in the states). However, after reading this thread I am very disappointed with how this particular transaction appears to have transpired. For example, Facebook posts mentioning "renovation" when the owner was returning a virtually new camper to be fixed. It calls into question many of the posts that I have read from Phoenix (on this forum and elsewhere). Maybe this is just one misperception or rare occurrence but it does cause for pause and further investigation if one is in the market.
Maybe some or most Phoenix owners are happy, however in this instance I think it is obvious that at least one customer is not. As a prospective buyer I appreciate this information along with other information available (eg resale value, customer reviews, site visits) to make an informed decision. Maybe I will buy a custom Phoenix or some other product but at least this informations can help me decide.
Maybe I am misunderstanding your post but it appears that you are concerned that an unmoderated forum is biased and bashing competitor/company products... My experience with the expo forum has been one of respectful, polite, healthy debate fueled by the desire to share information for people trying to buy products that meet or exceed their expectations as they work hard to fulfill their expedition dreams. I personally do not only see no harm in that dialogue, but also I appreciate that the community is willing to openly share their experiences to benefit others. Would you prefer that these discussions be moderated and controversial posts removed if they highlight issues?
By the way, an example of what I am talking about regarding sharing of information... Have you seen the post here about the Jeep Earthroamer or the GXV with the body mount failure? If you read the posts you will see the kind of dialogue I am talking about. Mike bought a very expensive (much more than a Phoenix by 2 to 3x) and basically did a gut redesign highlighting the design flaws of the original. Now if one were in the market for a used earthroamer jk or even a new Earthroamer... One might pause. However I personally appreciate this kind of dialogue to make an informed decision. The GXV example was good also and highlighted in the end how well Gxv handled the issue. All great info IMO.
