My Taco Phoenix Pop Up Camper

When we were having our leaking issues, Phoenix told us the same thing, condensation. They refused to acknowledge that it was a leak. Our floor looked similar to yours and they told me to cut holes in the floor and squeeze the water out... I will say now that we have fixed the roof ourselves, we have no water anywhere, even on cold nights we see no condensation.

If you are seeing water come in by the door, make sure the door isn't leaking. Ours was. Again, phoenix told us it wasn't their problem and that it was condensation. We recaulked the outside of the door and that combined with fixing the leaking roof seems to have done the trick. We do however, see water come in the window of the door, thinking we need to do something about that but not sure what.

Also, regarding the warranty, Phoenix told us there was a ONE YEAR warranty which didn't help us much since we have been out of the country for a year and a half. They said they would replace the tent material part upon our return to the US but with certain strings attached which by even posting here I am breaking their terms.

People approach us EVERY day and ask us what brand of camper we have. While we have fixed all the issues we've had, I can't recommend this brand to people. I'm sure almost all camper brands have some sort of issue but Phoenix continues to deny the issues are there and/or blame it on their customers. Most people who are interested in buying a popup are definitely not interested in a Phoenix after talking to us.

We continue to use our camper because we have no choice, and honestly, now that we've fixed it it's pretty awesome. Back when we didn't know what was going on, we stayed in a lot of hotels/hostels, and all I wanted to do at that time was get rid of the camper.
I think if Phoenix had better customer service, or rather, any customer service for the customers who have issues like us, MYTACO and others, people would feel better about things but they really just don't care. As I've said before, I wish a thread like this had existed before we bought our. We bought ours mostly off the reviews of another couple who drove to South America and loved it, only we found out a few months ago they got theirs for free... Not exactly an in biased review.

We will be at Overland Expo in May, I wonder if Phoenix will come say hello or just continue to pretend the problem doesn't exist.

"even on cold nights we see no condensation" Would you please share how you achieved this? It is my understanding that all pop ups have this issue. Thank you.

In order to save the investment in your campers, I wonder if having a private conversation with another builder regarding repairs would be possible. I believe that ATC modifies and repairs other brands. There are probably others that do the same.

TerraOps, we leave the vent open. Which is what we had been doing all along, with one or more of the windows cracked. The original leaks we had from the roof we were told was condensation. Since we have repaired the roof ourselves, we do not have water streaming down our walls. I should have said we see no "condensation," as I was referring to water running down our walls that Phoenix claimed was condensation. Sorry for the confusion.

Wandering Sagebrush, if we were in the US we would think about that. Maybe. We've already spent a ton of money on repairs were made ourselves, had new tables and countertops put in by other craftsman. On top of all that, we have our original purchase price, at this point I can't see spending more money fixing the camper. Ours is livable, and quite enjoyable now. MyTaco's camper is a whole other story, but I imagine she feels similarly. When you spend upwards of 20K on a new camper, it's a tough pill to swallow to think about paying someone else to redo the thing...

This whole situation with Phoenix/Coyote is unconscionable. Those leak stains make your camper look like it is many years old, not a newer one. What a nightmare and I applaud you for your civility. This is a very poorly manufactured camper. One would think that they would have made amends initially as the problems were evident from the beginning. We had some issues with our Hallmark, still do, but nothing like what you have experienced. The reputation of this is lost and they could have prevented it by either replacing your unit or repairing /rebuilding it properly. You have been more than accommodating to this business and yet they remain unyielding.

We had some issues with a septic install. It cost about the same as your camper. Instead of screened topsoil, they dumped construction debris filled soil on top of the mound. After arguing with the idiots at the health department and losing in small claims court, we gave up and called it a lesson learned. But, I gave bad reviews on Yelp and Angies List and wrote a blog with their name prominently mentioned. We moved on and system works fine (after we paid another contractor to remove the fill). But, your problems seem to escalate and I am afraid to read further posts. What your builder gained in not doing the right thing has cost him dearly in lost sales. Hopefully you will be able to camp worry free soon. Happy trails.

I noticed that since this thread started, Phoenix campers no longer posts on Expedition Portal. Seems like bad business to not try and make this wrong a right.

Yeah you think they would bite the bullet and replace this dude so he is all smiles. They are either stubborn or cash flow is too tight to swap out for free is my guess.

I would guess the OP is tired of hearing people's opinions on what Pheonix should or could do. He has stated that he tried to get a replacement and it was not an option. He also stated that he continues to update this post as a datapoint for people researching a new camper, not as a gripe session.

The BBB is like the mob. You have to pay them for protection. I canceled my membership and haven't looked back.

Amen. The BBB is a shakedown operation, pure and simple. When I see their logo used in advertising, it turns me off, big time.

Ok, opened her up again this weekend... And darn it, still watermarks and leaks. Ugh... It's not even like we had that much rain (less than .5"). It's not as bad as before, and now more centralized to the center back panel. I suspect this is why the floor is wet. On a good note, it doesn't look like the door leaks. So just ordered another roll of eternabond.

We are heading out next weekend, wet or not. I also have a trip planned to Big Bend State Ranch next month.

This thread is so downbeat. I read through it once when I first arrived here couple months ago. Started to look back through for the reason legal action was not possible. But got too depressed in the reading. Please say again why on earth you don't sue Phoenix? (I'm a small businessman. I've been sued frivolously. I'm the last guy to advise legal action. Only if all else fails. As it has here, no?)

Let me "up beat" the posting!

Just got back from a great weekend camping up at Canyon Lake, Texas. Beautiful weather until today--no heater needed, and condensation was low. Started to rain this morning--so far no leaks! No complaints this post--as I finally got to use the TC, even if just for a short weekend!
