My Taco Phoenix Pop Up Camper

Wow!? I can't believe that they are not bending over backwards to fix their flaws. Personally, if it were something I put out and it was that jacked up I certainly wouldn't want bad press on a fourm made up of my target market and potential future customers. How disappointing.

Hello all community and all my best wishes to all from France for 2014.
I do not post very offten,it is true, but I regularly consult this very informative forum.
We live in France and choose Coyote RV/Phoenix Pop Up to build our camper.
We now own a 2011 Phoenix Pulse 6' installed on a Toyota Hilux , with airbags for a more comfortable ride on off-road.After 2 years of intensive use (off-road) with our camper , we are pleased with the strength and tightness.Yes,we had also a few minor issue :

At first,we also had a small amount dis-coloration appeared on the pop up liner after we had not used the camp for two months, and when we returned, there were yellow traces of moisture which we determained was un -dried condensation as we did not dry it out before putting the top down. Now, after each use,we keep up the roof, and we never close the pop up before drying. With these common-sense rules, the interior is clean and healthy.
Our roof is watertight, with use all seasons.

For easy lifting pop up, Rob advised us to install gas strut lift assists. He sent these to us in France with no shipping cost.

Mytaco,
After this long statement of 10 pages on a open Forum, readable by all (quick and validation registration online forum), I complement the marketing effort and relational of Phoenix Camper.
"new cabinets,cushions,liner,ceiling vent,paint,seals......"
Wow... :Wow1:

Mytaco,
You still lacked vigilance and attention to the ventilation of your pop up liner. You were neglectful.Rob was very correct in his support to as well.

In all forums, the absolute rule is "not to put online" personal letters, private messages or emails. On French forums, the disclosure of private information, causes the expulsion of this member.
The moderator deletes these messages.
A Forum is a place to share and not a place for adjusting accounts and extract a maximum from the manufacturer.

Finally, Thanks to the release of these letters , we all read that Rob is doing everything to solve these problems.

I find it a bit ironic that us yanks are being schooled on etiquette by a Frenchman. :)

Why is that? Have you had a different experience in France?

From my experience (being almost adopted into the French family of my best friend and travelling throughout France for three decades...) I've found French culture to be massively stereotyped and misunderstood in the US. In general, France offers a gracious, generous culture to those who approach it.

While I didn't agree with what Catherine wrote, I see no reason for anyone to comment on the fact she is from France. Your post is inappropriate.

Wasp, Thank you for your input. I wish, in my research prior to buying my pop up, people had written reviews so that I could have made better choices. That was my sole intent in writing my review. I did not expect that any review would result in repairs from Pheonix. Quite honestly, I had given up as every contact I had with them resulted in little to no success. If you remember, I was not even given an owners manual until I had questioned the warranty.

Wasp, I did see your truck on line after you purchased it--and prior to purchasing ours. If you look at the Pheonix website and other locations, they frequently post new campers they just built and sent off with their new owners. Here, I would note that they did not do that with mine. I suspect that it was because of the paint issues--a $1500 investment on my part. They also missed the mark on the wood selection and adequate amount of fabric. That should have been my first red flag, but I loved the camper and chalked it up to an expensive lesson for me. Personally, I suspect that my project just took a back seat to the Bronco Bronco and the quality issues that I experienced were because they placed that project ahead of mine.

It sounds like you, too, learned the hard way about condensation. I was never informed of this in advance--again, I suspect because I was not given an owners manual. That being said, I am almost OCD about my camper. I did not ever put her up "wet." I am still convinced that there is a leak, as since then, I have kept it covered with an ugly tarp--and the discoloration does not reappear. I also bought an Eva-Dry dehumidifier--and it has not picked up any moisture inside the camper.

When I bought the camper, I was a "newbie." Rob and Cari knew this--and they were made aware of my use expectations and knowledge level. As they were the professionals, I relied completely on their expertise in the layout, how it was put together, and the follow through. Again, when beginning this review, it was my intent to help educate others--not bash the manufacturer. I DID NOT WRITE THE REVIEW TO "EXTRACT THE MAXIMUM." In fact, I am a little offended by that comment.

Since my postings, I have received several personal messages, both thanking me for the information and sharing similar stories. It does not sound like my experience with Pheonix is completely unique, but as far a leaks go, probably the worst. With that being said, I am impressed that Rob has agreed to work on the issues. I know that he did not have to do this and that it is costing his time and money. It is also costing me my time and money. In the end, I think it is a fair resolution--but again, something I did not expect. I posted his responses simply because he had not responded to the forum, and I did not believe it was fair for me to summarize his efforts.

I will continue to follow up on the progress for my camper. I am due to return to Colorado on 1 Feb, and they will have my camper for 3 weeks. I am excited about getting it back and sharing more stories about my camper. Again, our desire is to see more of my own country (I have visited several places in France and love that country as well...Verdun and Nancy were especially interesting.) I want to be able to accomplish this adventure in my Phoenix.

Aw come on guys, can't ya recognize a joke based on silly stereotypes?

When jokes aren't funny, they cease to be jokes. I say that as a person who thought he was being funny, but seriously hurt and offended a colleague that I respected. I'd prefer to keep our posts about the topic, and not ethnic humor.

Mytacco,

Like you, when we bought our 1° camper,we were "newbee".And my understanding of English was very basic,at this time.

Mytacco,

P3,you say :

"For the most part,I am still very satisfied with our camper. The leak and paint were the only big complaints"

About condensation,I suppose that, when you have a shower at home, you ventilate the room.In a camper,it's the same. This is not a leak, but a total lack of ventilation.
If you sleep all windows closed (maybe with your 3 dogs), breathing also causes condensation.
Even in winter, we always leave a window open (or fantastic vent).

We don't need owners manuel, just warranty documents,a simple démonstration and a bit of common sense.
No need to leave Harvard or Princeton to understand the différents manipulations of a camper.

Rob give you an upgrated double insulated new pop up liner for extreme cold conditions .For Texas or others states,it's will be excellent. It's a great marketting effort.

The painter's mistake is recognized by Rob,and he is pleased to offer you a new paint.

I'm sure that you are and were satisfied with your "custom-made camper".This feature gives a very esthetic look to all,and additional off-road skills.

Good road with your camper.

I liked it. :ylsmoke:

I ain't in politics so I ain't gotta be politic'ly correct ... and I'm not.

Now can we please stay focused and just get back to bashin' on the camper ...

I'm very curious if it's even gonna be any better after the second go 'round.

My opinion ain't changed ... sell it. Sell it now.

It's a camper, not a submarine, or a space ship. I'm thinkin' if the customer basically likes it, just needs the issues addressed, it might well be worth it to let Phoenix have a chance to make it right. Very curious as to how it all turns out.

Just a couple more weeks and she'll be back in Colorado... Starting to plan our March journeys following her return. Can't wait!

On another note, I was reading in another forum about a foul smell coming from the gray tank or sink drain. I looked, and there isn't a vent. Has anyone ever added one of these? I think it was on RV net...am looking for the link now.
