My truck Burnt to d ground!

Well my 2000 Ford Excursion V10 burned to the ground! We don't know why yet, engine caught fire and burned the rest. I'm glad my family wasn't with me because it burned fast. Well now the question. My wife has informed me we will be replacing it with a Toyota. She has a 2002 4runner. So my vehicle has to haul the kids (4 kids in all). So I guess should we look for a 2003 or newer 4runner with 3rd row or look for a well taken care of Land Cruiser? Ya'll let me know what ya"ll think!

Was the 2000 model year within that recall that had to do with the cruiise control being "on" 100% of the time?
I vaguely remember something about leaking brake fluid from the booster dripping onto the cruise control module and starting fires...

Bummer about the Excursion.

I suggst a Land Cruiser. The 4Runners might feel a bit small, after driving an Excursion.

Sorry to hear that, glad no one was hurt. I watched a brand new Jeep Liberty burn to the ground in front of my house one night. It happened scary fast.

Definitely look at the Land Cruisers!!!

Thank you all for your responses. The only fear I have with the Land Cruiser is the gas mileage. My last truck only got10 MPG, My wife's 4runner gets 21. I also had not thought about the sequoia. Don't know the Gas mileage for a 1st gen. Sequoia.

Sorry to hear about the EX.

We looked at Sequoias and LCs before we bought our Suburban. MPG will likely be better than your Excursion but nothing close to the 21 your wife gets in her 2x4 4Runner. We average between 14 and 17. A friend with a Sequoia tells me he never gets better than 16. And the full time 4WD of the LC will likely keep you around 13 mpg in daily driving.

Space can be a big consideration with 4 kids. We have 3 and a large dog and everything but the Suburban and Excursion just didn't cut it without hauling a trailer when camping. Even the Suburban gets a bit tight with the Engel 45 and emergency kit\bug out bag behind the 3rd row. We usually mount a roof top cargo box for the tent, sleeping bags, etc. and store the food in the back.

What about a diesel EX around 2003? You'll get better mpg and still have the space. Guess it will come down to how much interior space you're willing to give up for Toyo reliability. As mentioned previously, a Lexus version may also be a good choice as they seem to be more fastidiously maintained. Many of the Sequoias we looked at did not appear to be lovingly maintained. Looked more like well used minivans inside. :ylsmoke:

Sorry to hear about your truck. I love my Runner but a the 4dr tundra's are nice too with plenty of room. And I'm pretty sure the tundra gets about 18 mpg and so does a v6 4runner. But i've heard the v8 4runners get better milage then the v6's.

Thank you all for your responses. The reason I want a Tundra is so we can get rid of my old truck and have one vehicle to pay insurance and all on. My wife believes we can still sell the truck and get a trailer to go with the 4Runner and do as much if not more than the Tundra. I don't know.

There is no way you're fitting 6 people comfortably in a Tundra for any length of time.
