My WIDE Full Size Expedition Vehicle... 2003 H1

Just wanted to share some pictures and a video of my truck. It's been a build in progress truck, and a very good off-roader. While some of the trails in Ontario may not be wide enough for a H1, the scratches on every panel of my truck proves me going through them :sombrero:

The truck is a 2003 Hummer H1. 40" MT/R's, 2" Body Lift. Factory Rear Eaton Locker, 12,000LB Warn Winch in the front, with 100' of AmSteel. Factory CTIS, Full Rock Guards, Underbody Protection, 2000lb capacity Roof Rack w/Ladder.

Interior has a ARB Fridge/Freezer, a 4' Aluminum Box containing Straps and Spares, Rear fender racks. House Batteries are a pair of Optima Red Tops, which use a intelligent charger and charge off the factory location batteries / 200A alternator. There is a 800W inverter onboard, in dash navigation, and a cockpit control for all onboard electrics. I will post some pictures of the interior in a day or two.

I still need to attach the new plates as wel "NOT A GM"

If I ever have the money..a H-1 is tops on the shopping lift.

Any lift to run the 40" tires?

I've always had a soft spot for the H1 pickup version.....someday maybe...with a Cummins.

a stock hummer can run up to 38.5" tires with no rubbing, some claim to get away with 39.5's but I don't believe they won't rub without at least a small lift.

2" of body lift is plenty for 40's. Guys who run 42's have at least 3" total of lift -- either a 3" body lift or the standard 2" body lift with the spring spacers (which add another 2" for 4" total).

While the transmission is a GM 4L80e, the engine is not a GM. Engine is made my GEP (General Engine Products) and is known as the Optimizer 6500. GM design, GEP revisions made it significantly more reliable.

Exactly right, just a 2" Body Lift to accommodate the 40's.

After being hung out to dry when the h2 was introduced, most of the folks with hummers/h1's understandably try to distance themselves from GM, the h2, and the h3 -- which are similar in name only.

As far as the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels, there weren't too many to choose from that would fit when the humvee came out in the early 80's. Supposedly AM General was going to go with Steyr but someone got their panties in a bunch because it wasn't an American engine. There's not a lot of room in there to maintain the 17" ground clearance and keep the height as low as possible, a smaller engine was needed.
