did some serious damage to those trails in the first Vid. Maybe its just I am from AZ and wet trails cause serious problems when the ruts dry.

Sick truck though....

The Cummins 4/6bt fits with a 2" body lift :)

a few guys on the HML did that conversion and I'm pretty sure it requires a 4" lift. John Andres has a really bad-*** truck -- he actually trimmed his hood and frame rails for even better approach angle (the extra height allows the radiator to be vertical so this can be done)

I don't want to thread-jack, but I'm sure the thread starter will enjoy seeing this if he hasn't already!

**edit -- I didn't make it clear that John's truck (the picture and the vid) is a 6bt conversion in a 93 hummer pick up

John's truck has a 2" Body Lift. The additional 2" comes from a spring spacer. I have looked into a 6BT conversion, and will do one in the future. I am just waiting for a standalone for the Allison 6 Speed to become a little more "stable"

I am a huge fan of the cummins as well. I replaced my engine with a stock 6.5td 6 yrs ago -- I wish I had gone n/a to get rid of the computer. Live and learn. At that time very few were doing engine swaps and those brave few pioneers who went with a cummins had massive body lifts.

I missed John mentioning his body lift reduction at the end of his build thread! Looks like 9 months ago he did some engine and radiator mods to go from his original 4.5" to 2" (low profile valve covers, custom shorter but still vertical intercooler...not sure if he also has a low volume oil pan?). Now I see why he needs the spacers (I've tried to stay away from them). I assumed he still had the massive body lift from seeing so much of his framerails under his truck in his videos. He's sure done some serious r/d for the rest of us over the past 5 years hacking on his truck! Glad people like him figure it all out before we jump in.

The "up armored" ones can't do it..."trust me, I just tried"

That pond was not on a trail, but on private land. The owner of that truck owns a lot of it.

I cringed when I saw that as well..

You know that it was private land, but the problem is that all the anti-access land folks will take the video and twist it to suit their needs.. "See what these nasty off road folks are doing to the land?" They'll never mention that it was on private land instead of public lands. They'll never mention that it wasn't even in the US.. But they'll certainly use it to meet their own agenda as if it were.

I do understand. The conservation laws on some of these logging trails are very lean as the logging trucks didn't exactly be careful when using them. Ontario has much stronger rules than Quebec.

How have the MTRs been for you?

I was considering them as an option for my next tire... but I've subsequently heard bad reviews about them chunking prematurely and cupping. I'm always looking for a second opinion though.

Really good. Considering I have load rating C tires on a truck that should see E's they are performing and wearing exceptionally well. No chunking out of mine and I run them hard but never under 18psi

I need to read up on why they rate a tire with a load range of 121 as a C. Maybe it is the pressure they carry the load at? Anyway, a 121 rating places your tire at well over 3000lbs each at max pressure. Easily a D, if not into the E range.

After being hung out to dry when the h2 was introduced, most of the folks with hummers/h1's understandably try to distance themselves from GM, the h2, and the h3 -- which are similar in name only.

As far as the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels, there weren't too many to choose from that would fit when the humvee came out in the early 80's. Supposedly AM General was going to go with Steyr but someone got their panties in a bunch because it wasn't an American engine. There's not a lot of room in there to maintain the 17" ground clearance and keep the height as low as possible, a smaller engine was needed.

Why the H2 hate?

H1 tops my list of lottery-win purchases...couldn't justify otherwise, financially...

everyone thinks they are so expensive -- not when you buy used. It's no Honda, but it's no Ferrari either.

No hate here -- except for GM.
