NAILED! Got the Van: 2006 E350 RB High-top.. Many more steps to come

Okay, okay, I lurked for I don't know how long, salivating  and learning while I lived for 2 years in a Winnebago View 23J and, of late, while living in Fl. But these 6 locked-to-civilization months just about drove me batty. So I traded in my '97 Z3 toy for another one...Pics below.

It was a painter's van, and it's pretty banged up inside, but it's got good wall railings at the floor of the cargo area for bolting things to, and it's got recessed lights in the roof (see pic that is cock-eyed...lol).

This "build" will be simple....and will be an on-and-off again project, since I have much on my plate now (selling the 23J and trailer, buying a house, son getting married, on and on), so I think this is at least a year + worth of a build-thread, and the only reason I'm starting it now, is because I wanted to put up pics prior to any work being done on it...and some work is being done tomorrow (wood floor partially cut/replaced/painted).

When I say a "simple" build, I mean it...Vandetta and WVvans' (was he on this site??? or another???) builds are way WAY out of my league. But since there must be some here (maybe just lurkers) who wish they could do a "build", well, they can use me as the one to look down to. Think: no wiring (still working on trying to find the best, most FABULOUS cooler that can stand-up to look like a fridge...no Engel$ for me...and no wiring) and I am, indeed, using that toilet pic for ideas (I'm thinking toilet-bowl appratus atop a box with the exit hole attached to a small piece of sewer hose...WELL!! I'm still puzzling it out! Stop laughing!....that is attached to my 18 gal thetford tote which is enclosed in the box that is topped with the toilet and the tote is locked on sliders inside the box and is accessed via the rear driver's door to empty). Water for toilet will be a simple gallon jug next to the toilet to be used as needed.

I'd like it to be 4x4, but the cost seems to be prohibitive (and that's not a part of the build I can do), so we'll see about that.

I've found (online) a folding twin bed that folds against the wall for daytime room.

Will pull out the gate between cab and cargo (which may become the toilet enclosure...I plan on using what I have if I can), and make the front seats swivel...one for dining and one for office (with tables that fold up against the wall for traveling.

I'm trying to find out how much weight the fiberglass top can hold, as I have found water containers that can go on roof racks (for horse trailers, actually), and I'd like a simple gravity system for the kitchen sink: I'd paint the holding tank (40 gallons, if I recall correctly) black and just make do with that for "hot" water, and run a hose from the bottom of the tank down to the sink with a sprayer attached...depending upon how it works, I might actually make the hose go under the sink and come back up so that it looks like a "real" plumbing job. The outlet for the sink will empty into a 6 gallon jug.

We're mostly talking Ikea here too, for the cabinets.

Anyway....I'm open to suggestions; and I don't mind a chuckle or two at my expense (if it's a nice chuckle). I'll be in and out here, so please don't think I'm ignoring any posts if I don't get back to ya right away.

:smiley_drive:

That would be one crazy deal to be sitting on that throne at highway speeds, and release it freely to the road below!

Imagine the person's expression in the car following it. :Wow1:

Holy crap thats innovative toilet!! I cannot wait to see the rest of the build. I actually love it when people can get really good use out of something it was never meant for. Good luck with your build it looks like you have a pretty clean van to start with, I will be watching.

Ya, I knew the toilet would be popular. :p

Ermmm.....everyone knows I just got my idea from that, right???.....I mean, I have no intentions of letting the .....(well, you know), hit the fan of the ve-hic-kle behind me...lol. Unless they're tailgating...because that's just wrong.

Do you have a paypal account?
Because I'd pay you to poo on a tailgater. :sombrero:

On another note, I assume that's a traffic cone right? I spent 27 years setting up traffic cones...but never thought to use them for uh...that!

Nice van...it is definitely a great starting point. Especially with the hightop already there. A few more $$ for a UJoint conversion and some creative interior builds and it will be most excellent....:victory:

Oh I forgot the whys:

Econoline: for towing (heck, the bumper on this can tow more than my Sprinter RV chassis could.)

350 for MORE towing (there may be a boat in my future)

Hightop: 'Cuz I've been known to sleep in rest areas as needed & 'cuz I like something solid between me and critters with 2 or 4 legs.

White: 'Cuz that's how it came.

RB: for ease of parking and towing (that rear overhang is a pain, especially when towing a single axle)

Question to anyone: Is there such a thing as a $3000 4x4 conversion via a company (again, I can't do it - and I've been stuck in sand and rocks enough, tyvm!)

And if you're laughing at that question, then let me just say that when the uninformed shop for winches online, and in the pics, they don't see what the other end of the winch is attached to (just that it's attached to the vehicle in distress), they have to guess that there is another vehicle saving said vehicle in the pic, despite the hope that somehow the winch is magically attached to a tree/rock/whateveryoucanfind, since the uninformed, when stuck, is stuck in a spot that wise people don't venture into.

So go ahead and laugh, but do answer about the conversion's price. I've been to sportsmobile's site, and Quigley doesn't like the age nor mileage of my van.
