Narrow roof rack wanted

I'm looking for a decent rack that I can use concurrently with my Thule Cargo Box, i.e. mounted side by side. The rack would need to be narrow and long, probabaly 3 feet wide by 5 feet or so.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes such a rack?

Here's a photo of what I am working with. It would be nice to stow gear alongside the box.

Do you want a rack or a basket? Usually 'rack' refers to the cross bars and their mounts.

Have you looked at the Yakima Basketcase? You can find the dimensions on the web. I can fit it side by side with my Thule Sidekick box on 48" bars.

I've also thought about using the plastic 'basket' that Bestop makes. It is meant to be mounted in various positions on the roof or back of a Wrangler size Jeep. There may be other baskets for that application that fit your needs.

Have you consider re-deploying a shelf from industrial wire rack shelving? These are often 18 inches wide (45 cm), and up to 72 inches long (183 cm). Very much like a Yakima Basket Case. A long one might need more supports than a typical two-bar rack, but the shorter ones might work quite well. The clips from Thule or Yakima might be adapted easily to attach, or it wouldn't be hard to craft a u-bolt setup to tie it to the rails.

Often available *cheap* at places that sell used commercial furniture. Usually chrome, which would probably need to be coated for exterior use.

It's 37" wide, and seems to be well built. I received it last week, but haven't put it on yet...now on the search for the Craigslist cargo box.

At 37", the Rola isn't much different from the Yakima Loadwarrior (44 x 39). There are quite a few baskets around the 39" width.

The Basketcase is 26 x39, so can be mounted in either direction. Some like a low profile, and mount it between the cross bars.

This 'jeep' basket (used to be Bestop) is 23 x 44

How about a full sized Front Runner rack and just mount your cargo box on top of that? Or for something cheaper, you can use half of an ATV ramp mounted on your exiting load bars.

Buy a set a folding aluminum ATV ramps from a place like Cabelas. Cut the hinges, and use one side.
