National Luna Fridge

Just sold my Engel and looking at replacing it with the National Luna Weekender 50L split, fridge and freezer. There's an average $180 price difference between the aluminum and stainless steel. Is the stainless really worth the extra $180? Anybody have a National Luna fridge and want to give some feedback on it, either positive or negative? This is going on my AT fridge/stove slide, so if you have photos of this exact set up, that would be awesome if you could share them!!!

I've had the 90L split Aluminum (sold) and now have the 50L split Stainless steel.

Aluminum:
Lighter weight (check the stats on www.equipt1.com)
Cheaper
'Possibly' slightly better heat reflectance (no science here, just a thought)

Stainless Steel
Heavier
More expensive
Stronger
I prefer the look
Will 'age' well

If you are planning to have this fridge a long time, and you prefer the look of SS, I would highly recommend it. I prefer it. Other than cost, the only downside is the weight, which isn't a big deal on a small(ish) fridge like the 50L Split.

I went with aluminum due to weight although I did go with a 80ltr and the weight difference was more. The aluminum is of course a little softer than the SS and more prone to little dents; the SS is thin and will do the same just to a lessor degree. I have the mounting plate and with the cover on it is not very exposed to damage.

The only difference between the two is the outside shell so the price difference is just for the looks IMO.

NL here too but the 90L......alum......
I dont think the SS is worth the extra $$, that's why I got the jacket/cover for it.... its on 100% of the time....

I'm leaning towards the aluminum due to weight savings. Looking at mounting it on the NL fridge mount, and bolting that to my AT stove/fridge slide. I noticed the bigger NL fridges have baskets, but the 50L split doesn't. Do any baskets fit the 50L?

I have only owned the one (80ltr) and was pleasantly surprised there were baskets in them. It makes for a very organized, compartmentalized fridge. With the 50l already split there may not be a need for them, 25ltr is not that big of a space. I would send off an email to AT asking about it; I am sure if some do fit you can get them as extras when you order the fridge.

The stainless looks nicer and is more durable. No advantage in function. I do really like the look of the stainless fridge.

We love our Weekender with the little freezer. Ice cream and ice for a G&T at the end of the day.

I bought my 50L Weekender about 2 yrs. ago, it ended up going in my daily Toyota full time for business ,for the purpose of not getting dented up and the likeable appearance I wouldn't have it any other way.It has turned out to be something I load up daily with great respect of a fine addition to my rigg.

The new 50L Split (and possibly others) has plastic baskets that really nice. Great for organization.

I have several calls in to the 4 companies I know sell or have access to the fridge. Waiting to get my quotes. Nice to know the new ones have baskets. Any shots of them? I haven't ever seen the 50L with a basket

Found a photo of what looks like a new 50L split with the basket. I like it!

Yeah if I had to do it again I might go with the 50l weekender. I really wish they offered that size and split in their other line-up. I like the thicker insulation and extra cooling plate in the regular line. I guess everything is a trade off.

I am looking at one of the weekenders but I am curious abut the freezer compartment. I am having a hard time visualizing 10L and how much can actually be stored in it. Can anyone give me an idea of how much y can pack into the freezer compartment? At almost double the price of an Engel, I really need to be able to find some way to rationalize the price beyond "Oh, shiny! Must have!" Which is where I am right now. :D
