Need a bit of help Re: Jeep Warranties

When I bought my ZR2, from a dealer in Washington. It had been made and originally sold and purchased in Canada. I remember my dealer mentioning that they had to make some sort of arrangement, for the warranty. Requiring a GM tech to certify dealer to dealer, that it was on good shape. (it was low miles). And that the warranty would be valued. But would have to be paid out through the Canadian dealer, if it was ever needed. The dealer then, said it was cheaper(easier) for them. To offer a dealer warranty, that was above the GM one. I got a deal I liked. 2 free oil changes a year/ and 100k m bumper to bumper. Up to 100k miles/ 6 years past purchase date.

Sorry for not following up on this (I hate it when people do that!)…

After some polite pressure, the jeep dealer in Canada did honor the warranty.

This won't make you feel better but I can promise they didn't say that to your daughter because she's an American. They say the same stuff to us here in Canada all the time!

For example - my throw out bearing went after about 25,000 kilometers on a new JK and was told that I'd have to put up the cash to have the dealer look at it while they determined if it was a warranty issue or not. When I inquired what circumstances would this NOT be a warranty issue they explained to me that if it was taken off road it would void the warranty. I asked them to define off road more specifically and was told "off pavement". I then asked them if they were aware of the products they were selling and what they were allegedly designed for.

And that's how I learned how to take the transmission out of a Jeep.

There were other issues - I've owned two jeeps - but they didn't cover anything under warranty for us, and I won't buy a new jeep again because of the experience. And, as others have noted, that's not unique to Jeep - I posted here a while back about my RV having an issue that wasn't being covered by warranty and it was actually this site's post that finally got Jayco to pay attention and stand behind their product - they feared the bad press.

Anyway I digress - If your daughter gets in a jam again we are based on Vancouver Island - feel free to DM me and if we can help we will.

Thanks so much.🙏🏻

That’s an incredibly helpful offer.

(And btw, it’s also rather typical of the generosity and helpful nature of the wonderful western Canadians we’ve met in the past 40+ years of exploring B.C., Alberta and the Yukon)

I have a 2008 JK with a life time powertrain warranty. The warranty requires an inspection every 5 year. In 2023 my local dealer replaced a front axel seal under the warranty. Just lucky I guess. I did not purchase the jeep from them.
