hi everyone, back again looking for some tech info. made some progress on finally tearing into the truck to see what happened. i'll list some history on the situation, was out on vacation, driving the truck (1995 lr disco manual trans 3.9) in michigans upper penninsula. we were pulling a very lightweight trailer with dirt bikes on at the time, travelled many miles and had not had any signs of trouble, feelings or noises what so ever. then as we came from the back roads to intersect with the main road we stopped at a stop sign, waited for traffic to clear and then attempted to go. but unfortunately there was no forward motion. all we had was a terrible gringing type of noise. a breif inspection looked like transfer case was not engaging into gear, so attempted to shift and manioulate inkage- no luck! ended up having to cut the trip short, hopped on the dirt bikes and rode down to escanaba to rent a uhaul and trailer. got truck and gear home (grand rapids area, mi). at home i dug a bit deeper and suspected internal transfer case issue due to the fact i could feel the gringind from the t-case, i already pulled all the linkage and checked that as well, removed drive shafts
to find if in gear the output flanges would spin but could be held stopped by hand accompanied by the grinding noise. so today i pulled the transfer case and found the transmission output shaft was stripped as well input at transfer case.
so my question now is whats next? i have spent a little time researching the topic but cant seem to find infor that follows up to the end. i am looking to find out how do you rplace the transmission outout shaft, i have a spare tcase and a spare transmission, but trans not good as a whole- lost 2nd gear. but output shaft may be reuseable as well i think i may trade the whole case or just the single input shaft/gear. has anyone done this, please let me know any infor that may help me get on the road again! thanks in advance, Brad.
