need winch recommendation

It's probably a "loaded" question but I'll ask anyway...
Can anyone recommend a winch over 8000 lbs, non-intergrated solenoid (need to fit it in my ARB bumper), includes synthetic line, under $700?
It's going to be a gift..... for me :coffeedrink:

Superwinch EP 9 $575 without the rope, somewhere around $700 with. Might be a tad over depending where you find it, but an excellent winch, in my several months of owning it and never actually needing to use it yet.

Thanks all, I went ahead and ordered up the XRC-8 w/synthetic line. Seems like it got some great reviews and is highly affordable. Amazon has it for $401 w/free shipping.
It'll be interesting to see how it holds up to New York City Road grime and road salt this winter.

Keep an eye on that rope, it isn't up to the standards of the companies that have been working with synthetics for the past decade and a half.

If the Smittybilt rope is SK75 as advertised, what is the weakness of Smittybilt rope compared to others? I like the specs of the Superwinch EP9.0 but was leaning towards Smittybilt just for the included Synthetic Rope. If there is a reason to buy aftermarket rope, then the Superwinch has better current draw specs and a brake design that reduces drum heating issues.

Thanks,

It might be an Sk75 fiber, but the manufacturing that takes the fiber and turns it into the rope gives you a different finished product.

This stands out to me (http://www.smittybilt.com/product/index/57.htm):

94' of 21/64" Synthetic DSK-75 8,000lb rope

21/64ths is only 1/20th larger then 5/16ths ropes so that isn't a big deal, what concerns me is that the breaking strength they have of 8000lbs is 5000lbs weaker then our basic series rope which is rated to 13,000lbs in the 5/16ths diameter. So they have a slightly larger rope that is 5000lbs weaker then our weakest rope! Master-Pull Superline has a rating of 21,000 lbs for a 5/16ths rope, that is 2.5 times the rating of their rope. All of our ropes are rated at minimum breaking strength, whereas other companies will rate at average breaking strength.

Low blow! The advise he gave could save somebodys life or a lot a grief. It's a China winch with a China rope and the user may hang a vehicle from it. Would this also be a good time to remind you that Masterpull is a paying sponser of this forum and gives great advise and discounts on the best winch ropes made to those like you that participate?

First he said keep an eye on it from a safety standpoint as he is in the know. He did not plug his product in the first post he said "companies", that could be anybody. Second he was asked a direct question. Then he answered why he said to be careful and gave an example.

Thank You MasterPull. I did notice the difference in ratings between the Smittybilt Rope and others such as MasterPull. I just didn't give it much thought because it was all SK75 rope. I too will go with the winch I really want and worry about the synthetic rope later. I appreciate your direct answer to my question and in no way felt you were plugging your own product. I read you post as just recommending purchasing a quality product no matter the source. However, my choice will be Superwinch EP9.0 and MasterPull rope when the time comes.

Thanx Again,
DamMan

Your welcome, I want to make sure you guys don't end up with a product purely based on price and end up regretting it down the road. I use a Superwinch EP9.0, it is a solid winch but the speed isn't as fast as I would like.
