Well looks like most of the SUVs around here are either too new or have too high of miles. I have one or two more tahoes to look at and maybe a 2001 durango. There are a few newer explorers but those really dont look like a good platform for an expedition rig. So I am going to start looking at crew cab trucks. Any advice? I am struggling to find something as the wife is pushing more and more for a mini van.

One up the wife on the mini van issue. Get a late 90's Mazda MPV 4X4. Ladder frame, rear locker, reasonable amount of room. Not a 'full size' but could be a very capable Expo vehicle.

An AWD Astro van might be another interesting option. I've seen one with a solid front axel and real transfer case conversion that was a great off road vehicle!

Well the grand is now gone. I got a 2000 Chevy Tahoe LT 4X4 to replace it.

The wife and I are trying to get our girls into camping and hiking. The plan is to turn this into the family exploration rig to visit places all over the country.

It's gonna get keys and spacers, roofrack, rear bumper and tire carrier etc.. I have been reading about swapping a H2 14 bolt rear into a tahoe so this is a possibility down the road but not sure. I'm not sure if I wanna go with an ARB or a Trail Ready from bumper though either.

I would recommend that you do a search of Road Armor complaints before you buy. I spent over a year dealing with them and it took filing criminal charges to finally get my order. I wanted my money back, but I took what I could get. I would advise that you stay away from Road Armor.

this is a post from another thread, might wanna look in to it before buying.
